considering the "hot" neighborhood the room was quiet. Small room but practical. Staff very friendly. Could have been a bit easier to find though. I have liked it, it offered a rest in the midst of a very exciting environment... very small room, nothing to stay longer than needed. staff very friendly and dedicated. about 10 min walk to MRT. Happened to be in the red light and food district, but it´s ok!
no internet, but quite easy to find around the hotel. ...

The hotel staff are friendly and helpful which makes a not particularly good hotel more acceptable.The location is good, just 5-10 mins walk from Aljuined MRT station.
The first room i was given had a strong smell of cigarette smoke and damp. the staff allowed me to move to another room which was a lot better in terms of unpleasant aromas!
the rooms have internet cable in, 24hrs is SGD10 - i didnt use the service though.
the windows in the rooms are locked, however i managed to unlock them using one of the plastic spoons provided for coffee - this helped to freshen up the room a lot!
included in the room is bottled water, clean towel, shower cap and toothbrush.
the staff allowed me to leave a bag at the hotel once i had checked out.
surrounding the hotel is a red light district is obviously not for families but its not dangerous and quite interesting to see. another fascinating thing is geylang is the street gambling, quite a popular one was high-low dice. i put a $10 bet on high dice and won $10 in a matter of seconds!
the food in geylang area is pretty good - mostly chinese.
the lively atmosphere in geylang area makes a refreshing break from the clinical order of downtown singapore so its definitely worth a try. i'm not sure how hotel 81 compares to other budget hotels, but at this price in singapore its probably about as good as you will get. a cheaper but reasonable alternative might be "the inn crowd" hostel which is more central.

If you are travelling with family then go for an alternate hotel due to red light area around. Very very hot neighborhood around the clock. Variety of chinese and youth indian food is just some footsteps away. Ideal for male tourist looking for some adventure ;-)

Hotel room was clean and comfortable.The location of the hotel was not very great but adequate for the price I paid. Check-in time could have been more flexible - I waited two hours outside the hotel as my flight arrived early. Also, the hotel staff did not assist me with taxi call as I waited about 20 minutes on the road, outside the hotel, for taxi. Overall, hotel was good, but I would select better location next time.
