There was nothing to dislike, the hotel is well loctaed with the MRT within a minute walk to the front lobby. All the staff we met were friendly and willing to help. Although we only had breakfast this was excellent with plenty of choice with the quality of the food also excellent. The only disappointment was not being able to stay longer!! thank you for making our stay so enjoyable....

Overall we had a fantastic time, the location is perfect, the is no other hotel where you just walk out the door and you are in the Hub of Clarke Quay, just great for walking around and shopping for resturants. Also very close to everywhere else with it being "in you face".
We only ate breakfast, which was included at the Buffet, but what a way to wake up, sitting outside watching the world. The one meal we had in the Hot Potato does not do it's name justice, it was "five star fine dining".
The only thing we were disappointed in was the room, no view, (check booking in future), but the Hotel upgraded us to a beautiful room with the views of Singapore for free, great job. We will be going back next year with the whole family as the Pool amenities are ideal and the safety and security is top rate. Thank you Swissotel Merchant Court, Singapore.

The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and efficient, no matter what time of day. The hotel facilities were well appointed and our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The classic room in which we stayed was well appointed and comfortable with a decent view, however the room could have been a bit larger.

There are little things about this hotel that keep the star rating down.Things like thin towels in the bath, old TV rather than modern flat screen, high cost of internet access. So for the price, this hotel is only average but in a great location.

Hotel in excellent location, very helpful staff, breakfast good selection, room was in needof updating, i.e. some wallpaper coming adrift under window and tiles in bathroom were cracked. Other than these minor defects, the hotelw as very good. Would recommend for anyone visiting Singapore.

WE had two stays at this hotel in Feb and Mar. The first was very good but expensive but the 2nd stay was marred by two poor rooms. The first had very bad black stains over the carpet and was barely furnished. The second was adequately furnished but showed considerable wear and tear. chipped furniture, black tile grout, stained carpets again! For £200 a night we would not stay here again.

The room was well presented and very clean. Excellant location right on the water front at Clarke Quay which is a most impressive lively and tastefully colourful area of Singapore. We stayed one night in transit from Australia to London. This is our second visit to Singapore and our short stay at the Swisotel Merchant Court was a very pleasant experience.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The location was just what we reqired. Breakfasts were excellent but there was no all day coffee shop facility. Meals there were served buffet style at certain times. There was no facility for a snack at other times. The pool service was overpriced.

The Swissotel Merchant Court is probably a little on the expensive side, as there are little in the way of extra amenities. Large Swimming pool (but a bit awkward to get to), lounge is on the small side with limited seats and is tucked away round the side. Room was fine, typical standard, Flat Screen TV and the usual trimmings. Great big soft bed was a bonus. Right on the boat quay, so location is probably the best there is, right in the heart of the action. Try and ask for a river facing room quite high up, as the views are excellent. The Mass Transit (Underground) is a stone’s throw from both of these anyway.

My son and I recently stayed at the Swissotel Merchant Court Hotel for a long weekend. We arrived at 2pm and were told our room would not be ready 'til 3pm and for our inconvenience, they would give us a complimentary late check out. That was very much appreciated as we had a late return flight.
Loved the room, staff, pool, breakfast and location.
Our room was well set out, very clean and uncluttered, giving it a spacious feel. It could of done with one more chair (as there were 2 of us in a twin room and only one chair) and I suppose we could of asked but it really wasn't a problem. The room had a view overlooking the pool and the river. The air con was at a perfect temperature as I did not have to adjust it. There was a little bit of noise on the Saturday night from Clarke Quay night life but it did not deter us from sleeping with the windows open to wake up to the sound of birds in the morning. With the windows shut, you wouldn't notice the sound. The bathroom was excellent, and again well set out.
I cannot fault the staff - they were very helpful, especially booking tours, High Tea at Raffles and taxis.
We loved the buffet breakfast and the pool was a good size and not too busy/noisey. Very relaxing.
Location, location, location - The Best! Around the corner from the MRT station, which was also next door to the Singapore Airline 'Hop on Hop off' bus route. Easy walk to many eateries and across the road from a shopping centre. Very easy to find, just head to the river.
The absolute best thing about the hotel is that when you walk out of the lobby, it is quiet and tranquil. You are by the river and not instantly thrust amongst the throng of city shops, cars tooting or crowds of people rushing around. It allows you time to get your bearings, sort your thoughts out and set off on your day from a calm environment! Bliss!
The least thing about the hotel- using a swipe card for the lifts and the fact that we had to leave.

I enjoyed my stay but my arrival was marred by the following incident:
- When I arrived, there were 2 attendants at the entrance. They did not make any move to open the door of the taxi or help to carry my luggage. When I asked where the check-in counter was, they pointed it out to me but made no attempt to help me with my luggage or guide me there.

Great pool area, though some form of Staff supervision for the control of children would have been even better. Fantastic location at Clarke Quay for evening entertainment & access to the nearby Boat Quay. Also, in wet weather, we were able to access the MTR without getting wet which enables you to gain access to the indoor shopping malls at City Hall & Orchard Road. The room patio doors/window insulation could do with some improvement but it wasn't a big problem. Many thanks to Reception

My daughter, exhausted from flight, with two quiet children arrived 2.a.m. to pre paid Swiss Advantage room for three. Next door room terrible loud repair / cleaning work, all night, absolutely unforgivable! She was refused room change. Next day had to plead hard for different room. and an extra small bed because King bed and single requested two weeks prior not given. Offered view of pool, but more important was an extra bed, eventually given. Male staff very disinterested. and unfriendly. Female staff good and tried to be helpful. Very disappointed ,felt room not equal to value paid and noise problem not addressed. However room and all facilities very clean and restaurant provided well. Daughter a frequent traveller therefore knows what one can expect to provide for that price.

This was our second stay at this hotel and again it was very good, no hiccups whatsoever and the staff were very efficient and friendly. If I were looking for areas of improvement, maybe the breakfast could offer a bit more variety - after the 4th day it felt a bit ordinary. Also, from our teenage daughter's perspective the TV channels on offer were a bit like the breakfasts! But all in all great hotel, very good service and would be more than happy to return!

Lovely Hotel with fantastic staff. Although we only had breakfast at the hotel - the food was wonderful, fresh and full of variety. When we first got to the hotel we had twin beds, but the staff managed to get us a new room within an hour - we were very happy as this was a stop on our honeymoon. The location is brilliant. Very, very close to lots of shops, the river and the train. We enjoyed staying here and visiting Orchard Road rather than staying there as it was so much more friendly, peaceful and surrounded by lots of eating places. Singapore is safe to walk around at night and the train makes transport so much easier. If we go to Singapore again, we will definetely choose this hotel again!! Thanks for making our stay special.

It's the worst impression at the first time my husband and I arrived. Firstly, the hotel didn't notice that we're the guest. Secondly, the hotel receptionist couldn't provided us the room type we wanted. We needed double bed room but we got the twin beds room. Besides, because the computer system of the hotel was down, the hotel receptionist repeated the booking for another woman. That meant she got the same room as us. We don't think that the four stars hotel got bad computer system and bad booking. We're really upset to stay with this hotel. It's not value for the high price. However, even we faced these problems, the location of the hotel was great. We could walked along the quays to Merlion park at night safely. Moreover, it's easy to travel by MRT to other tourists spots. Besides, the breakfast of the hotel was very good. We liked it. That's all.

To avoid at any cost !
The room was small, very basic, without even a proper directory of services or even a room service menu, which is probably better that way...The towels are small and worn out. The TV selection is very poor without any finance oriented chains such as Bloomberg or CNBC furthermore the reception is bad.
The service or lack of service was a proper disgrace; the doorman even slamed violently the cab door because he did not receive a tip he did not deserve by his lack of help in bringing and loading the luggages...The business center charges a $ a minute for internet access...
It is unbelievable to think that this hotel is a member of a chain which used to be renowned for its quality and which is currently owned by an even more prestigious one!

The good: the property is exceptionally clean and elegant; friendly, helpful and courteous service by all staff members; security patrols the hallways 24/7; hotel is 5-minute walk to the MRT and 10-minute walk to Clark Quay clubs, pubs and restaurants - very convenient; and excellent cable-TV connection
The bad: only guests residing in their executive or VIP rooms can use the business center; no cybercafe (for those w/o notebook/laptop computers; guest facilities are not open during the evening; hotel shops are expensive; hotel main entrance does not face a main thoroughfare so taxis do not normally stop at the hotel; and the room is a bit small for two double beds and two chairs - crowded with an open suitcase
The ugly: second floor room faced a construction site; and the guest room layout is the most confusing I've ever seen - you'll get disoriented in search of the elevator!
Be aware: airport shuttles do not pick up PAX from the hotel
Overall: a good hotel with oustanding customer service but I've paid less for better facilities Customer service at its best - from the moment I stepped onto the property to the moment I got into the taxi to depart I was received with courtesy, warmth and a smile. The staff even wished me a "happy birthday" as I checked out at 6 a.m.!

The location of the hotel is excellent with a direct access (less than 5 minute walk) to the Clarke Quay MRT station. Adjacent is Clarke Quay, a former riverside godown area which has been converted into restaurants, wine bars, entertainment area and retail shops. Also located here is the Royal Selangor School of Hard Knocks which teaches own to make pewter wares and Singapore's one and only Reverse Bungy.A short walk away is Singapore's Financial District.
The spread for the buffet breakfast is a treat for ones taste buds with a wide variety of Asian and Western dishes.
The noise from the nearby construction site is a lot quieter now, as the building is nearing completion.

You couldn't have better reception, concierge and house keeping staff - they were quick, courteous and efficient.
You couldn't have worse breakfast staff (excluding the chefs who were very friendly) - they were rude, disinterested and lazy.
Pool area was fantastic, gym was well equipped and room had everything you could want from hairdryer to ironing board, and good tea and coffee making facilities (although the kettle was slow!!).
I will still go back because it was location, location, location. Very close to the MRT and the river - on Clarke Quay and walk to Boat Quay. The only place to stay in Singapore location wise - fantastic!

Located next to Clarke Quay where you can eat, drink and enjoy till 1 AM. Construction is going on in front of the hotel. We asked for a room away from the construction site but still were given one facing it. We were asked to pay more if we wanted a room not facing the construction site. It took two days before they agreed to give us a different room without extra payment. By then we had enough and changed to a different hotel for the rest of our stay.

The position of the hotel is great, right by the river. There are a lot of building works going on at the moment. We'd asked for a room with a balcony (and paid for it!) First room, a double bed for 3 of us - and no balcony. We asked to move and were given a room with 3 beds (no balcony) and told we could move following day - tea time. It was gone 7pm before they eventually let us move, works had been going on in ceiling above and bathroom was filthy. They eventually came to clean it.This is about the 4th time we've stayed at this hotel and so have given it a fair chance, they have never got the rooms correct! The pool is lovely, brilliant for kids, slides etc - food and drink very expensive by pool. Great position - not so great service! There's a free bus to Raffles Plaza and Suntec, goes once an hour. OK getting from hotel to Plaza, never seemed to manage it back. Taxis available most times.

In May 2006 the adjacent area was a thriving construction site but there was minimal noise and the only intrusion was visual. Breakfast proved to be an interesting time that, whilst not a let down, would benefit from better control and understanding between the staff. Overall, I would happily use the hotel again.

Brilliant breakfast, lovely pool area and location despite lots of surrounding building work. Staff helpful particularly concierge. High cost to keep room an extra four hours disappointing. Nice room and very clean. Disappointing internet access at business centre which always seemed to be closed. Good Gym. This was a lovely hotel in an excellent position and we would certainly recommend it to our friends. Unfortunately as with all rooms booked over the internet you always get a back room with no view but for what we paid it was very good value excellent position for travelling around we used public transport with no difficulty. The underground station is below the hotel. Everyone was very helpful. You would be hard pushed to find a better breakfast anywhere, excellent.

Although we did not have a great view, this was marred by a building construction straight outside the window, the room was small but perfectly well serviced. The bathroom and lighting particularly were excellent, but it was frustrating that the entry lights could not be turned off except by removal of key card, which turned everything off. This meant we had to literally get out of bed to turn all power off except the television.
Being able to access an ice machine on every floor was a bonus. The breakfast buffet was very good and the ambience and design of the lobby and foyer was also good.

We really enjoyed staying at this Hotel and were very pleased with the location. Most of the staff were very helpful and courteous but I didn't feel the staff at the massage/fitness centre were very friendly at all. In fact, at times, they made me feel a bit awkward at being there. That was the only down side in what was a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The hotel does not accept my company's diners credit card for payment. As a result i and other colleagues will not be using the group's hotels until this policy changes.
