Jennifer from South Africa stayed in a Deluxe for 3 days.
We so enjoyed our stay at the Berjeya Singaport, the rooms were excellent and well furnished and large, the staff charming and well informed. The only thing was the noise from the bars accross the road. Next time we will aks for a room on the quiet side of the hotel. We hope to be back at the end of the year.
Well appointed and attractively furnished large room and bathroom. A pleasure to find an elegantly furnished hotel after all the modern hotels which are all the same. Polite and eficient service. We had a very good breakfast. There should be some change, especially if one stayed..
Please be patient…

We booked Studio room. Clean. Good location, 7 min walk from EW line. Spacious bathroom, but small bedroom. Good-priced laundry service in the nearby International Plaza (very near to EW15 Tanjong Pagar metro station). Very nice staff.Hotel Facilities

We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Berjaya Hotel. We loved the old world charm and good sized rooms. The breakfast wasn't huge but was very nice and the location in Chinatown was great for cheap meals at the food markets. This is not an up market 5 star hotel but a good all round alternative if looking for a more affordable stay in Singapore. Would definately recommend.Hotel Facilities

A HotelTravel.com Member from Poland stayed in a Studio for 3 days.
The hotel has a lot of character from the outside and inside. It is in good location (Chinatown) and the area is really nice and not too busy (if you're after shopping and busy areas then Orchard Road is the location for you). The hotel is about 5-10 min walk from the nearest MRT station (Tajong Pagar). It is just two stations from the Harbourfront Station where you hop onto Sentosa Express to get to Sentosa.
The service is really nice and helpful and never had any problems. They order taxis for you and help if you have any questions about the city, how to get to a particular place or which is the best place to shop for electronic gadgets (Funan).
The room itself (standard/studio) wasn't a wow but nice and cosy and clean. It was big enough for us and a baby. They provided a free wooden cot with bedding for our baby as well. We had some limited space because of that but it's not like we lived there, we just spent nights there so no problems.
The bathroom is very decent with a shower enclosure - big enough for a bath. They provide bath towels and face/hand towels, complimentary toiletries - shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel, cotton buds. There is also extendable washing line under the shower enclosure.
In the room there is a wardrobe with hangers, bedside tables/chests, in-room safe, desk with a chair, flatscreen tv, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar and a fridge.
The only negative thing about the room - not sure if it is the case with other rooms, but this one was damp. There was no mould or anything anywhere, not even in the bathroom but we could feel the dampness in the air and if we had some wet clothes, they wouldn't get dry and stay damp. Also aircon was a bit noisy but it is just a matter of getting used to it.
The wifi connection is just under 26 SGD for 24 hours but we didn't use it so don't know how it works. Recommended.Hotel Facilities

I like this hotel because it is small and friendly. One annoyance is that WiFi is not free to use as it is almost everywhere else these days but costs S$25 for 24 hours. One must ask for a code to unlock WiFi access. This seems petty (and almost childish) and rather backwards these days. It's not very Singapore in a city that prides itself on being so wired and communications friendly.Hotel Facilities

Older hotel constructed from original shop houses. It's a bit of a rabbit warren with the corridor layout. Smoking is permitted unfortunately as the ventilation is poor. The rooms are dull and gloomy with poor lighting. The bathrooms are ok but showing their age. Location is good near Chinatown and Maxwell food market. Only a short 10 minute walk to MRT. Our stay at the Berjaya was very pleasant. We even stayed longer than expected as one of our flights was cancelled. We were able to go back to the hotel and they accomodated us right away, allowed us the use of the internet, held onto our bags and offered us a beverage to cool down as they saw we were hot from dragging our bags back to the hotel and booked us in another room for the evening. The rooms are clean, the staff is very professional and the area is not as loud as some other reviews. The street is filled with pubs but it is welcoming and the locals are nice to speak with. Everything is within walking distance, that is if you take the MRT which is a great system once learned. I would, without a doubt, stay again.Hotel Facilities

The location of the Berjaya could not be better: in the Tanjong Pagar neighborhood, walking distance to Chinatown, convenient to MRT. My room was charming, and the staff attentive and kind. We deliberately chose Berjaya as a small hotel after staying in a central large 4 star hotel in order to experience the difference - which was the personal touch and a better sense of being in "real" Singapore. Being further from the river the use of the underground was important, but a station is close by. It's location in Chinatown provided a good sense of this area. The hotel is on a narrow one way street with a 7/11 opposite and several nightclubs down the road that were noisy at night. In contrast, the road behind was quiet with archetects' offices and a modern "sophisticated" restaurant. We appreciated the personal touch from staff who actually knew you and when you were leaving. The room we had was spacious and the quality fine. General fittings e.g. carpets in the hotel foyer were fine, though not the most recent. Don't choose the hotel if you want the Raffles level of quality, but do choose it if you want to be closer to the feel of the people in Singapore and like a smaller scale more personal hotel.Hotel Facilities

Spend 5 nights at the Berjaya and must say it was a pleasure. Booked a deluxe room which was excellent, clean, big and well furnished. The service staff were always friendly and attentive. The breakfast which was included was delicious and prepared when ordered. Try to find a package where the breakfast is included otherwise it will cost $25 for ABF. Will return. Peter from United Kingdom stayed in a Deluxe for 5 days.
My wife and I have previously stayed in some of Singapores ultra modern multistorey hotel blocks and although all very good we have often experienced coach loads of tourists (with naturally excited children) arriving/departing Changi Airport at all hours of the day and night. On this trip we decided to try something different and what better than this 50 room hotel which is a converted block of shop houses located in the heart of Chinatown. It is within easy walking distance of Tanjong Pagar MRT train station so all of Singapore and now including Changi Airport is easily reached. It is located in a short road of other shophouses many of which are closed during the day but open from evening untill late as night clubs and karioke bars and although others on this site have complained about this we did not have a single problem with either noise or the young girls on the street employed to entice visitors into the bars. The staff at the hotel were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We were greated out on the side walk as we approached (we had walked from the MRT) and very quickly offered glasses of chilled fruit juice. Our room which was at the front of the hotel was spacious, well furnished (thankfully not by Ikea!!), clean and as previously mentioned - quiet. We enjoyed our stay with the Berjaya, found it excellent value for money and would use it again. My studio room was big enough for one person, if I needed a bigger one, they are also available. It is an excellent hotel, and dispite the fact that there are many nightclubs in the vicinity, it is very very silent. I think that the reason why this hotel has only 4 and not 5 stars, is the fact that they have no gym or any other sports facility. Business men in general have no time for this on a trip anyway. For a change, breafast is served on the table, and not in buffet form. Believe me it is much nicer to have everything prepared and freshly served.Hotel Facilities

I prefer a small, friendly hotel with character rather than a large, modern, anonymous one, and the Berjaya fit the bill perfectly. The building is a converted shophouse and the rooms are tastefully furnished in a colonial style. It's in a good location with plenty of bars and restaurants on Duxton Road, but my room was very quiet despite looking out onto the street. Chinatown and trendy Club Street are close by. Staff were friendly and helpful and recognised me on my return visit on the way back to the UK from Australia. I would certainly recommend the Berjaya as comfortable base for a stopover or a longer holiday in Singapore.Hotel Facilities
