We so enjoyed our stay at the Berjeya Singaport, the rooms were excellent and well furnished and large, the staff charming and well informed. The only thing was the noise from the bars accross the road. Next time we will aks for a room on the quiet side of the hotel. We hope to be back at the end of the year.
Well appointed and attractively furnished large room and bathroom. A pleasure to find an elegantly furnished hotel after all the modern hotels which are all the same. Polite and eficient service. We had a very good breakfast. There should be some change, especially if one stayed lo...

Our stay at the Berjaya was very pleasant. We even stayed longer than expected as one of our flights was cancelled. We were able to go back to the hotel and they accomodated us right away, allowed us the use of the internet, held onto our bags and offered us a beverage to cool down as they saw we were hot from dragging our bags back to the hotel and booked us in another room for the evening. The rooms are clean, the staff is very professional and the area is not as loud as some other reviews. The street is filled with pubs but it is welcoming and the locals are nice to speak with. Everything is within walking distance, that is if you take the MRT which is a great system once learned. I would, without a doubt, stay again.

The food was absolutely divine, probably the best that I have experienced at any hotel. Maybe a little expensive but it was well worth the money.

Great looking hotel, friendly courteous staff. Located close to Chinatown and the MRT for easy access to rapid transit. The breakfast wait staff seemed a bit confused and frantic. Only big negative is an exorbitant amount of money required to use Internet in the room. Better to walk to Internet cafes in Chinatown.

The Hotel has a very victorian touch to it. The staff are friendly and attentive. The only few minor details that were missig was the retractable clothes line in the bathroom. At Breakfast the service was not up to par as i didn't get what i asked for.It was not the buffet breakfast as i was expecting.Did not get a view of the street.Upon checking in i had got an approved extention of a 1p.m check out despite that i got calls from 12 p.m

The location of the Berjaya could not be better: in the Tanjong Pagar neighborhood, walking distance to Chinatown, convenient to MRT. My room was charming, and the staff attentive and kind. The hotel welcomed guests with a plate of fruit; the Straits Times was delivered every morning. Unexpectedly, breakfast was included with my reservation, served by very attentive waitstaff. I would definitely stay again at the Berjaya.

Well appointed and attractively furnished large room and bathroom. A pleasure to find an elegantly furnished hotel after all the modern hotels which are all the same. Polite and eficient service. We had a very good breakfast. There should be some change, especially if one stayed longer. Spotlessly clean rooms and bathrooms and beautiful main area. The rooms were a bit noisy as there were bars accross the street, however I am sure if one requested a room on the other side of the hotel all would be well.

Pleasant surprise among typical shopfronts. Excellent airconditioning (very important)! Spacious, comfortable room/bed. Rather too much noise from nearby night club/bar.Helpful, friendly staff and handy for both Chinatown and Little India.

The rooms were pretty average, but the provided tea-making facilities were nice. Staff were really good - I was allowed some free internet time and hours after I checked out they still carried all my bags up to the top floor to a free room so I could have a shower before departing for the airport - that was great.

Very good location in Chinatown. Spacious room, good working a/c, comfortable beds. A bit noisy at night because of many bars in the street. But only on weekend. About 10 min to the nearest MRT station (Outram park). Bars in the street, noisy only on weekend nights

We deliberately chose Berjaya as a small hotel after staying in a central large 4 star hotel in order to experience the difference - which was the personal touch and a better sense of being in "real" Singapore. Being further from the river the use of the underground was important, but a station is close by. It's location in Chinatown provided a good sense of this area. The hotel is on a narrow one way street with a 7/11 opposite and several nightclubs down the road that were noisy at night. In contrast, the road behind was quiet with archetects' offices and a modern "sophisticated" restaurant. We appreciated the personal touch from staff who actually knew you and when you were leaving. The room we had was spacious and the quality fine. General fittings e.g. carpets in the hotel foyer were fine, though not the most recent. Don't choose the hotel if you want the Raffles level of quality, but do choose it if you want to be closer to the feel of the people in Singapore and like a smaller scale more personal hotel.

While hotel is close to Chinatown, it is some distance from main shopping precinct of Orchard Road. Rainy season combined with constant traffic snarls means travel by MRT is preferable from this hotel. Overall, hotel is looking tired compared to when it was the Duxton Hotel.

Relatively unpleasant experience at check in, after long flight, being exhausted, it was not nice that the staff was not able to find my reservation. Luckily, they were helpful and checked me in, they also were able to find my reservation by chech-out time :)

A pleasant change from the modern high-rise hotels of Singapore; well positioned with lots of character, but the room could do with redecoration and a new carpet.

Excellent hotel, perfectly located in Chinatown, close to food centres and MRT. Staff very friendly and willing to offer any assistance. One minor quibble was the noise from the air-conditioning, but I would happily return for another stay.

Spend 5 nights at the Berjaya and must say it was a pleasure. Booked a deluxe room which was excellent, clean, big and well furnished. The service staff were always friendly and attentive. The breakfast which was included was delicious and prepared when ordered. Try to find a package where the breakfast is included otherwise it will cost $25 for ABF. Will return. The area is convienent, close to maxwell street food area (great food and cheap) close to underground rail, close to china town and club area. Really pleased with our stay at the Berjaya.

My wife and I have previously stayed in some of Singapores ultra modern multistorey hotel blocks and although all very good we have often experienced coach loads of tourists (with naturally excited children) arriving/departing Changi Airport at all hours of the day and night. On this trip we decided to try something different and what better than this 50 room hotel which is a converted block of shop houses located in the heart of Chinatown. It is within easy walking distance of Tanjong Pagar MRT train station so all of Singapore and now including Changi Airport is easily reached. It is located in a short road of other shophouses many of which are closed during the day but open from evening untill late as night clubs and karioke bars and although others on this site have complained about this we did not have a single problem with either noise or the young girls on the street employed to entice visitors into the bars. The staff at the hotel were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We were greated out on the side walk as we approached (we had walked from the MRT) and very quickly offered glasses of chilled fruit juice. Our room which was at the front of the hotel was spacious, well furnished (thankfully not by Ikea!!), clean and as previously mentioned - quiet. We enjoyed our stay with the Berjaya, found it excellent value for money and would use it again. A couple of points that would be users should be aware of - With its location and facilities, this hotel is not for

My studio room was big enough for one person, if I needed a bigger one, they are also available. It is an excellent hotel, and dispite the fact that there are many nightclubs in the vicinity, it is very very silent. I think that the reason why this hotel has only 4 and not 5 stars, is the fact that they have no gym or any other sports facility. Business men in general have no time for this on a trip anyway. For a change, breafast is served on the table, and not in buffet form. Believe me it is much nicer to have everything prepared and freshly served.

I prefer a small, friendly hotel with character rather than a large, modern, anonymous one, and the Berjaya fit the bill perfectly. The building is a converted shophouse and the rooms are tastefully furnished in a colonial style. It's in a good location with plenty of bars and restaurants on Duxton Road, but my room was very quiet despite looking out onto the street. Chinatown and trendy Club Street are close by. Staff were friendly and helpful and recognised me on my return visit on the way back to the UK from Australia. I would certainly recommend the Berjaya as comfortable base for a stopover or a longer holiday in Singapore.

A fantastic hotel with a lot of old world character in an 'interesting' part of Singapore. Would definately recommend for young people, probably not for families with young kids due to the interesting nature of of the hotel location...
