Portugal is wonderfully child-friendly. Children from 4 to 12 years old receive 50% off tickets on Portugal’s railways, and those under 4 travel for free. Pre-school aged children usually get into museums and other sights for free. Many restaurants will serve child-size portions for child-size prices.

Portugal’s southernmost region overlooks the Atlantic on two sides. It is one of Europe’s favourite holiday destinations due to its splendid sandy beaches and dramatic rocky coastline. Water sports and hiking are some of the main attractions as well as numerous championship golf courses. Faro, the capital of the Algarve, was devastated by an earthquake in 1755, but part of the old town has survived. Sights include the Cathedral, rebuilt in the 18th century, an Archaeological Museum and the Carmo Church and ossuary.
