The popular hideaway of Puerto Galera is conveniently close to the Philippine capital city of Manila. Increasingly popular with crowds of tourists from other parts of the Philippines and abroad, the city offers plenty of entertainment infrastructure around the coastal resorts. However, visitors don't have to travel far before landing in an isolated part of Mindoro's interior mountains.
While Puerto Galera doesn't have many facilities that explicitly cater for children, there are plenty of natural attractions and landmarks that excite younger and older children alike. Sea turtles nest on some of the sand beaches, and there are numerous places to swim and enjoy water sports. What's more, many nearby attractions have nice picnicking facilities, making them perfect for day-long family outings.

Chinese New Year: while there's not a strong Chinese presence in Puerto Galera, there is nonetheless a strong tradition owing to centuries of trading with Chinese merchants. The Chinese New Year is observed in pockets throughout the Philippines.
Most of the attractions at Puerto Galera are found on or near the region's many beaches. There are a few historical sites related to the Spanish colonial period, though some of the most popular attractions are the entertainment options that line Sabang and surrounding beaches. Inland, tourists find a dense, seldom-explored interior populated primarily by the elusive Mangyan tribe.

There are no direct connections to Puerto Galera by air, though it is possible to fly into San Jose on the occidental side of Mindoro. Practically all flights into San Jose originate in Manila, and onward travel to Puerto Galera requires a lengthy ride by bus or hire car.
