Palawan Island in the western Philippines was named by National Geographic Traveller magazine as the top island destination in Southeast Asia region in 2007. Come see for yourself if the hype is true, while being based in a HotelTravel.com-booked room.

Today visitors can enjoy the haunting beauty of the province for themselves. International standard hotels and resorts pamper to their guests every whim. There is lots to see and do and plenty of restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood to international fare. If diving and nature walks aren’t your scene, the shopping opportunities will keep you busy for hours and there are enough sightseeing attractions to keep guests returning year after year.

The rustic backwater province of Palawan is located a world away from the teeming Philippine metropolis of Manila. The pace of life is slower here, and across the 1,780 islands that comprise Palawan Province there is only one official city. The rest of the outposts are quiet and sometimes hard to reach destinations that harbour a fascinating wealth of wildlife and natural beauty.
Palawan has many natural attractions to offer its visitors, from nicely landscaped gardens to pristine forests and exotic animal sanctuaries. Children are consistently delighted by the wildlife and outdoor activities on the island. All of the following activities can be organised through local travel agencies throughout the province. Keep in mind that some of the wildlife sanctuaries and forest preserves are accessible by permit only.

Tarek Festival: this festival is observed in the town of Aborlan by the indigenous Tagbanuas and Batak peoples during the third week in January. Ritualistic dances are the main event, and great emphasis is placed on local priests who attempt to commune directly with local deities during the events.
Palawan has many sites and attractions to offer its visitors. While most of the tourist traffic centres on the region's pristine natural environment, there are also several historic landmarks leftover from three centuries of Spanish colonial presence. Transportation to most of these sites can be arranged by jeepney or bus from Puerto Princesa.

Flights into Palawan are usually handled at Puerto Princesa Airport. Here, daily flights leave for Manila and Cebu city. There are also less regular routes from Manila to other Palawan destinations like El Nido and Coron. However, there are no international connections made in Palawan.
