The hotel is basic (you get what you pay for), but was clean. It is very conveient for anyone heading to Puerto Galera as there is a bus/ferry ticket office in the lobby and the bus leaves from outside.Staff in the hotel are good, housekeeping turned up quickly when requested, and if you have any visitors then reception calls to confirm their departure when they are leaving. One of Manila's largest shopping malls is two short blocks away, but the area is not the best at night (I've seen a lot worse, just need to use common sense that's all).

This is an average hotel. I have stayed there twice and will again if in Manila. The staff is accomodating and the room was acceptably clean. There are ATMs next to the hotel. The best thing about it is the Puerto Galera Gallera Si-Kat Sea Cat bus and ferryboat service originates from this hotel. So if you are headed to Puerto Galera, this is a great stop over point. It is also very close to a large mall and the ocean. You can watch the sun set from the walkway along the ocean. There is also nightlife close by. Across the street is a bar / restaurant with good bands at night. Also, there are other bars near by.

The hotel is very clean and has a menu which is varied accommodating for most people. Down side is the road outside is very busy and noisy and is a long way from international airport.

The first 2 days there was no hot water. The staff was great and some of their services are great, yet the room was very small when I think about the size. Bathroom was about average, I would consider it again my visit soon though.

Rooms were clean , 7/11 around corner , mall a block away , very close to the clinic for US passport approval for my fiancee to take physical. Got shave and haircut across street for about $6. Hotel offered very good exchange rate. most hotels I have stayed at here don't have good rates and I don't like exchanging money outside.

So-called "business centre" is ridiculously overpriced for internet use & printing of documents. A better and much cheaper choice than City State Hotel would be a "good" room in Mabini Mansions a couple of doors away

Have stayed here on a few occassions and the hotel is sufficient for most temporary layovers. No fancy views or nice furniture but what they have is functional. For me the best feature is the ease of getting to Puerto Galera and Sabang since the Sikat bus/ferry ticket counter and staging area is in the hotel. The hotel is central to the entertainment in Ermita and everyone knows where the hotel is. There are less expensive hotels but City State is a good compromise if you want basic amenities at a reasonable rate.

My second stay at City State and it was as pleasant the first. Clean, comfortable room; when a call was placed about a problem with the cable TV @ 11:30pm someone was there to fix it in less than 5 minutes. Good value for the money, convenient location to Robinson's mall, baywalk and LRT

In need of refurbishment! I only stayed here because the SiKat bus for Puerta Galera departs from outside and that worked fine. On return, I was able to leave my luggage with the concierge until I had to go to the airport for 50 pesos - a bonus.

Not a bad stay. Was displeased with having too leave a deposit for the mini-bar. I'd recommend the Superior vs the Standard which is very small

Very friendly and eager to help. Room key wouldnt work so Mgt. on the floor had the cleaning crew hurry and finish the room next to it for us so we wouldnt have to go up and down the elavator. Food was good and service was great for me. However they tended to ignore my Filipina Wife and never did bring her breakfast on our last day. Less than 2 blocks from Robinson's mall great place for shopping. Also close to US embassy maybe 3 blocks. There is a casino in the hotel and a disco close by some noise but not bad when you are tired. Considering the location it could easily have cost more. This is the place I have stayed every trip since 1995

The hotel is located in the centre of Ermita area; the environment is quite dirty and seems dangerous, however, you can reach a rich shopping mall building "Robinson" within several minutes on foot from the hotel and will be able to buy souvenirs and gifts there. Takes pp 530 from the domestic airport by Coupon Taxi.

The employees weren't friendly or informative at all. The room was small with a very soft, saggy bed and a TV that didn't work. Furthermore, there was no window and therefore no way out in case of fire. Right outside the hotel were beggars.

My overall opinion would be that this Hotel is tired. The decor in the rooms needs refurbishing with light colors. The dark blue color was not good. The tiling was broken and chipped, the taps leaked and the aircondioning was noisy. A good lick of paint on the walls would help immensly. The phone was so engrained with dirt that i had to spend half an hour cleaning it with soapy water before i could use it!! I will be returning to Manila many times in the future but i might look for a better and newer Hotel. Liked the staff and waiters polite and helpful. Good breakfast as part of tariff 24hr food is a good feature. Can't complain as cost was not high but would pay more if Hotel was upgraded.

In a rougher section of Manila (other than Makati), but I had no problem. Very nice facility and I got a good rate which is no longer available. I would only stay at this hotel again if I got an exceptional deal.
