This hotel is a favorite of locals for weddings, graduations & family functions and for good reason. The dancing (Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights) is lively & fun. The grounds are well kept & I found the staff always friendly & polite. However, the infra structure of the hotel is definitely starting to show it's age, but if you are looking for solid value at a reasonable rate, this hotel will more than meet your needs. On the other hand, if you're a discerning traveller & you demand a four star North American style hotel, you will need to look elsewhere, but for the average traveller, this property represents an excellent value at a reasonable price point providing solid value for the money. The staff are all students doing hotel and service courses so it would be unfair to blame them as they are all unpaid and just beginners ,,,having said that they were very friendly and as helpfull as they could be ..
I found most of the paid staff ( managers ) to be hopeless ...
The beer was warm and the food was cold ...i went to leyte park after a few days and was lamenting that i hadnt made the decision earlier Chris Layugan, Australia
All the staff are friendly, air conditioning system are noisy, no doctor is around in case of emergency, transport is minimal to city of Tacloban. A HotelTravel.com Member, United States

My husband and I were just there this past May 2006. The room that we had was was fairly large for 2 adults and 2 children, our bathroom door had no knob just tissue covering the hole, they had a small tv (approx. 13") and the mattresses were the local foamies/futons...a little uncomfortable if you're not used to sleeping on it. MacArthur Beach has a clean, shallow beachfront with warm water to play in. We tried one of their swimming pools which was not the most cleanest we've ever used. MacArthur seems to be a great favorite of the locals to have their reunions / parties / picnics / etc. They have only 1 dining area which was located outdoors. The food was just ok, limited menu, and one of the kids got sick after dinner. It was ok for breakfast and lunch, but watch out in the evening you'll be eaten alive by bugs! Their taxi and laundry services were reasonable and good. The staff was friendly and accomodating. If your intent is to stayput and have a quiet getaway at the beach this would probably be ideal, but if you have children and you want other entertainment note you'll be taking a 30 minute trip eachway to get into Tacloban...one of Leyte's larger cities...for shopping, eating, and bigger playgrounds for kids to play in. Note to travellers there are no car rentals on this island so you'll be dependent on the local transportation which there are plenty. This hotel was not what we expected and would not be a returning destination for any future visits. Otto Jespersen, Denmark
It has been a most wonderful experience to stay at MacArthur - the friendliness, warmness and loving helpfullness we have been met with is a unique ingredient of Philipino hospitality - we can only say Mabuhay - keep doing what you have done so far - you wont get wrong - thank you - we will be back soon. I absolutely advise anyone traveling to Leyte to stay at MacArthur Park Beach Resort! If you just want to get away and relax, this is the place! Hotel staff are top notch, and as friendly as they come! I had a wonderful time there and hope to return soon! A HotelTravel.com Member, Japan
