Davao's climate has no clearly discernible seasons and year-round consistent temperatures, relative humidity, air pressure and rainfall. Temperatures fall between 20oC and 32oC, and volumes of rainfall can reach 2,000mm per annum.
The beaches in the Davao region offer ideal conditions at which to enjoy this popular outdoor sport. Nets can be found in many locations. If you don't want to engage in the activity yourself, you can always sit back and enjoy watching the locals play.
Araw ng Dabaw: Davao City celebrates the historic event when the city received an official charter. For a week, the locals enjoy a variety of festivities including horse fighting, ethnic rituals, a beauty contest and grand parade.
Rich in natural beauty, the Davao region has no shortage of interesting sights on offer, some easily accessible and others requiring a little effort to reach. The region's coastline is spectacular, offering glimpses of the kind of paradises that are generally reserved for picture postcards. Samal Island is among the most scenic of the region's coastal destinations and can be best enjoyed on one of the guided tours offered by local operators.
Visitors will find a number of choices on hand for getting around Davao, with buses providing the cheapest options. Both the air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned public buses serve major destinations across the region, with most places of significance in Davao City covered by the network.
The Davao region is largely free from major threats to the safety of visitors. Crime is low in comparison to cities such as Manila and a relaxed atmosphere is enjoyed on the streets and at tourist resorts. Petty criminals maintain a background presence here, but they are not rife as in some tourist destinations. Visitors who exercise caution can reduce their chances of being targeted. Attention to cash and valuables in busy places is essential and items of value should be stored in safes or locked away in suitcases if left in a hotel room.
