Airports

Francisco Bangoy International Airport, also known as Davao International Airport, is the chief gateway to the Davao region as well as to the rest of the island of Mindano. With a capacity to serve over one million annual passengers, Francisco Bangoy is Mindano’s busiest airport and sees flights arrive from Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and major domestic cities such as Zamboanga, Manila and Cebu.

National carrier Philippine Airlines operates two flights per day between the capital city of Manila and Davao, and as many flights from Cebu. The same airline operates daily services from Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga. Bouraq Indonesia Airlines operates twice-weekly services to Davao from Manado and Hong Kong (via Cebu).

The airport is a single-terminal facility with modern equipment and a good selection of passenger services and amenities, including those addressing essential needs and those aimed at comfort and relaxation. Passengers can take a taxi from the airport into the city or arrange for a hotel pick up. Alternatively, car hire facilities are available for those who want to drive themselves.

Public Transport

Visitors will find a number of choices on hand for getting around Davao, with buses providing the cheapest options. Both the air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned public buses serve major destinations across the region, with most places of significance in Davao City covered by the network.

Alternatives to the buses include jeepneys, which are essentially modified motorcycles with sidecars for passengers. Similar to jeepneys but pedal-powered are the pedi-cabs that wait at strategic places or can be flagged down. Visitors will need to negotiate the fare with the driver before getting in.

Taxis can be hired from stands outside of popular hotels or tourist attractions, or flagged down in the street. Cabs offer metered service and a tip of around 15 per cent of the fare is usual. Cars can be hired from operators based at the airport and make for a convenient but expensive means of getting around. Car hire services are also available at offices and major hotels in the city.
