A very old cross in the centre of town is festooned with flowers, then mounted on a colourful float and paraded through the town along with images of Mary and other floats. This unusual and picturesque lake has the distinction of containing the world’s smallest volcano, making it Batangas’ most popular tourist attraction. A 20 mile-long lake surrounds the volcanic islet, which is a great place to do some hiking. There are seven small towns surrounding the lake, most of which have accommodation, transport and restaurants. Many visitors head to Tagaytay City first, which offers a panoramic view of Taal Lake from its ridge top location. The main travel hub in Batangas province is Batangas City. Air-conditioned buses operated by private companies such as JAM, BLTB, Tirtan, Batangas Express Liner among several others are the best way to travel between Manila and larger cities around the province such as Tanauan, Lipa and Batangas City. Smaller towns along the coast and in the highlands can be reached by local jeepney transport once you get to Batangas City.
