Airports

International air travellers will need to fly into Manila’s Ninoy Aquino Airport first before making their way to Batangas. The Philippines’ main airport has two terminals, one for international flights and one for domestic travel. The large and well-equipped terminals have several banks, currency exchange kiosks, a post office, restaurants, duty-free shopping and a medical clinic.

The nation’s main air carrier is Philippine Airlines, which handles most international and domestic flights. Many of the world’s larger airlines also have regular service into Manila from virtually every corner of the globe. Ninoy Aquino International Airport is located about five miles south of Manila. Taxis provide the most convenient way to get from the terminal to the capital, from where you will have to find alternative transportation to get to Batangas province, about 80 miles from Manila. Batangas City itself is about 2 hours, 30 minutes by road from Manila, and there is regular coach service between the two cities.

Public Transport

The main travel hub in Batangas province is Batangas City. Air-conditioned buses operated by private companies such as JAM, BLTB, Tirtan, Batangas Express Liner among several others are the best way to travel between Manila and larger cities around the province such as Tanauan, Lipa and Batangas City. Smaller towns along the coast and in the highlands can be reached by local jeepney transport once you get to Batangas City. If you rent your own vehicle at the airport, the South Luzon Expressway offers smooth and easy travel between all the main cities in Batangas, and directional signs along the highway are in English.

Within Batangas province, the ubiquitous jeepneys are ideal for short jaunts around the region. These passenger minibuses follow set routes just like public buses and are great for getting from point to point. Tricycle rickshaws are a cheap and convenient means to get to exact destinations as they serve the function of taxis.

Ferries provide frequent service to the outlying islands in the South China Sea. Batangas City has a large port from where boats travel to virtually every destination in the Philippines. These huge ferries are known as RoRo, and can accommodate cars. The ferry terminal in Batangas City is a major hub for sea travel so expect plenty of traffic, especially on holidays like Easter and Christmas.
