Paraguay’s capital may not be the easiest city to take a holiday in but those who persevere with its shortcomings and still-developing infrastructure find it can be a very rewarding destination in terms of its cultural and sightseeing offerings, its humble and remarkably generous people and its variety of activity possibilities.
With great weather all year round, Asuncion is the perfect destination for enjoying outdoor activities, its lush green scenery making anything pursued outside a pleasanter experience. Ypacarai Lake is perhaps the best destination in terms of the scope of its appeal, offering the possibility of water sports, walking activities and beach relaxation.
As Paraguay’s capital, Asuncion is home to the country’s best selection of sightseeing attractions and visitors can feast their eyes on everything from fine old churches to temples and palaces. The Panteon de los Heroes, with its tombs of members of the Lopez dynasty, is the one place you should definitely not miss out on.

Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is the country’s main airport and its chief international gateway. It’s located just outside of the city centre in the suburb known as Luque. The main airlines operating flights to and from the airport are Aerolineas Argentinas, Aerosur, Gol and TAM Mercosur. Despite its status, the airport maintains few direct connections with Europe or North America, so visitors from these destinations are often obliged to fly to Buenos Aires or Sao Paolo and take a connecting flight.
