Tromso calls itself “the gateway to the Arctic”, and with good reason. The town of many wooden buildings in far northern Norway boasts many nights with northern lights and two months of “midnight sun” from around May 21 to around July 21. Tromso is the largest Nordic city north of the Arctic Circle and is home to the world’s northernmost cathedral, university, and brewery. The town’s fascinating is explained well in the Polar Museum. Another must-see attraction is the 18th-century Lyngen Church.
