Airports
Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) is located just over 48kms from Oslo’s city centre and is the main gateway to the Norwegian capital. It handles over 17 million passengers every year, which makes it the busiest airport in Norway. There is just one efficient terminal, which caters for all domestic and international flights.
The extremely efficient single terminal building offers excellent facilities which include bureaux de change, banks and ATMs, alongside a post office, information desks, a left luggage service and an impressive selection of shops and restaurants.
The airport is very well served by road and rail connections with the E6 motorway linking the airport to the city centre. There is an efficient and regular rail service available which offers direct services into the city centre. Local and shuttle buses can be found at the airport which includes a night bus and private services. Taxis can be found outside Arrivals and offer fast and private services into the city.
Public Transport
Oslo’s public transport system is run by the municipal transport company, Oslo Sporveier. The network consists of metro, tram, bus and ferry services. The local train lines are run by the state railway company, NSB.
The tram network comprises six lines which cover the city centre as well as the suburbs. The metro system is known as the T-bane and consists of six lines connecting the eastern and western suburbs. Buses are plentiful and offer services throughout the city centre as well as out into the city suburbs. Services are efficient and excellent value for money. It is possible to buy one ticket which will be valid for all public transport options, allowing free transfers over hourly periods
For those who prefer to travel in privacy, taxis can be found across the city and can be flagged down on the street, booked in advance or hired at designated taxi ranks. Taxis are metered, although they are an expensive alternative to public transport options.
