Kristiansand, Norway retains many of the 17th-century, Renaissance-style buildings from the time the town was founded by King Christian IV. A few beaches are nearby. The Kristiansand Fjord is home to small islands such as Flekkerøy, Oksøy, which are popular in the summer. Walking is the best way to get around the compact town, including charming, old-town Posebyen and the park Ravnedalen (Ravens’ Valley).There’s also music education (both classical and pop/rock) at Musikkens hus (House of Music) in the town centre. Shops are found on the largely pedestrianised Markens Gate.
