Northern Mariana Islands Introduction

The Northern Mariana Islands comprise of 14 beautiful tropical islands south of Japan and north of Hawaii. Volcanic in origin, they offer a wealth of stunning scenery including beautiful bays, spectacular cliffs, caves and mountains. Pristine sandy beaches, sparkling turquoise waters and sumptuous cuisine are also in abundance. Fantastic shopping and lively nightlife ensures that even the most discriminating tourist will enjoy this exotic destination. Hotels and resorts are plentiful and offer a variety of facilities.

A commonwealth of the United States, the Marianas played a significant part in World War II and there are a great number of shipwrecks and memorial sites. Today, these wrecks have created a plethora of coral reefs teeming with tropical fish which make for excellent diving in the clear waters surrounding the islands.
Out of all of the islands, Saipan has been developed specifically towards tourism. There are numerous museums, lovely parks, restaurants, nightclubs and gorgeous natural attractions. Saipan’s beaches are brimming with water activities and beach sports. The Guinness Book of World Records has cited Saipan as having the most equable temperature in the world.

Much of the history of the Marianas is based on World War II and while you will find many sites dedicated to the memory of soldiers who lost their lives, and museums telling stories of the war, there is much more to these islands. They offer visitors the chance to see natural beauty at its best and indigenous wildlife in the countryside surrounding the towns. If you have children, the beaches, parks, zoos and nature reserves here will provide plenty of entertainment.

However old you are and whatever your tastes, a visit to one of the Northern Mariana Islands will ensure a relaxing break in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. The local people are incredibly proud of their country and try their hardest to ensure that every visitor has a wonderful experience.
