Marrakech is a wonderful combination of delightful aromas, bright colourful marketplaces and the contrasting arid desert. Sometimes called Morocco City, this vibrant destination has long been known as the meeting place of southern tribesmen and Berber villagers.
Marrakech does not offer a lot of activities geared specifically towards children; however, its loud and busy atmosphere is enough of a distraction in itself. Coupled with the entertainment in the main square and quiet parks, the city will always keep the attention of little ones.
Marrakech Marathon: Each year, more than 5000 runners join in the Marrakech International Marathon and the Half-Marathon. The route is somewhat gruelling but at least temperatures are mild (20 to 25°C) in the day and the scenery is beautiful. The marathon is considered one of the fastest in the world. The most appealing sights in Marrakech are the daily events, the markets and people going about their business. There are lots of charming cafés and restaurants offering great perches for people-watching. Additionally, the main square and some of the mosques and museums are well worth a visit.
There are many gateways into Morocco and you won’t have trouble finding public transport into Marrakech, even if you don’t fly directly into Marrakech-Menara International Airport. Rail and bus services are good, and there are plenty of taxis at reasonable prices. The more adventurous can hire a car and make their own way around several destinations.
Banks are open Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 11:30 and 14:30 to 17:00 in the winter or 08:30 to 14:00 in the summer. Shops and souks are generally open from 09:30 to 13:00 and again at 15:00 to 16:30. Hours vary during Ramadan.
