Manzanillo Introduction
Manzanillo is a destination with gorgeous beaches, fabulous resorts, and a quaint yet modern tourist town offering great shopping and dining venues. In spite of its success as a tourist destination, and being Mexico’s busiest port, the city of Manzanillo is still fairly small and unspoilt. The growth of Manzanillo into a world-class holiday resort town began in the 1960s when a popular movie, "The Night of the Iguana", staring Richard Burton & Ava Gardner was filmed there. It put Manzanillo on the map and in the minds of millions of people and tourism boomed. Later in the 1970s, the Las Hadas Resort, now part of the Las Brisas chain, became the favourite playground for the rich and famous looking for an secluded place to escape the crowds. Then in 1979, Bo Derek and Dudley Moore made Manzanillo known to all when the movie “10” was filmed there. Today Manzanillo is bigger than it was in the 1970's, but it still retains much of the secluded flavour that celebrities tend to favour.
