The region’s huge and vastly-improved Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located 27 miles (43kms) south Kuala Lumpur, in Sepang. Having opened in 1998 to commercial traffic, it’s now a world-class facility boasting state-of-the-art equipment and a full range of amenities for passengers.

The airport has two terminal buildings, linked by a one-mile rail shuttle. The main terminal building handles the majority of flights and the low-cost carrier terminal building (LCCT) handles AirAsia flights. The former international airport, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, located in Subang, is still in operation, although it now services domestic and charter flights only.

Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier, and a large number of major international carriers operate services to and from KLIA. Transfer to Kuala Lumpur is available by taxi, shuttle, bus services, and also a new high-speed rail link that terminates in the city at KL Sentral Station.

Public transportation throughout the Klang Valley is provided by bus, rail and taxi. Although the standards of service are quite high, the ticket rates are low. The three metro lines converge in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, one of which extends westward into Selangor.

Selangor also has an efficient system of bus and taxi services, and most vehicles are relatively modern and air-conditioned. Rail options include networks such as Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the electric KTM Komuter Train. Making your way around Selangor by car is straightforward, as there is an extensive network of roads linking the state to the rest of peninsular Malaysia.
