Rated #11 for all Sarawak hotels
Excellent resort hotel. Large room with nice views and all mod cons. Quiet with not much night life around. Great pool and large rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Day-time activities are good although bars sometimes closed at night. Beautiful gardens and views to beach and mountains. Excellent value for money in a resort setting....

The Damai Lagoon has seen better days. The 'sunken bar' in the lagoon pool is abandoned and full of rubbish, the waterfall does not always work, the hotel bar is only open after 6pm, our room had not been cleaned for our arrival and several times we were left with no towels after housekeeping had visited, breakfast supplies always ran out and it is the only hotel in Malaysia where we have been served tinned pineapple rather than fresh (and thats after living here for 18 months)! Our 1st and only meal in the restaurant was disastrous with only 2 out of our chosen order for 5 people able to be supplied. When we changed our order, several dishes were unsatisfactory. The service was wonderfful throughout however with courteous, charming waiting staff doing their best and we were not charged for the 'disaster' meal. The setting of the hotel is gorgeous, and the beach made up for the lagoon pool, although we were badly bitten by sandflies. We hired a car which meant that we ate at a variety of excellent seafood restaourants locally on the peninsula - most of them will drive out to the hotel to collect you if you ask the hotel but this is not advertised anywhere. This is a most idyllic setting where the hotel disappoints and we certainly feel it was very expensive for what proved to be a very average to poor experience.
The hotel provoides shuttle buses between the resort hotels free, and in and out of Kuching for a price. Local restaurants will collect and return guests free of

We made the right choice in choosing this hotel. Here you find beautiful sandy fine beach and clear clean water - we are impressed. Two things fellow travellers might want to do: If you arrived early like us, do take the 6-8 hr city tour. The Sarawak Museum, Cat Museum and pottery should not be missed, a must to do. You can pre-arrange with the Front Desk, whom are very helpful. Dinner at Palm Garden Seafood Restaurant - they do provide transport. Or ask Front Desk to make the arrangment for you. We tried a few others, Palm Garden is still the best in terms of taste & value for money.

The equipment in the fitness centre is minimal and some are out of order. There are tiny ants in the rooms which is disturbing, even though it's a resort hotel. There is only one cafeteria which serves as restaurant and breakfast area.
