Rated #3 for all Sabah hotels
There is nothing standard about this Hotel, absolutely stunning bedrooms and bathrooms - staff beyond compare and a hotel that has the true meaning of 5 star - however good the facilities are and they are many the one thing that stands out at all times is the staff, they were absoultely brilliant. I stay in hotels frequently in SE Asia, Afrida and Mid-east and it is hard to impress me, this visit was way beyond my expectations. Thanks to everyone...

As usual the hotel staff were very warm and welcoming and always had a big smile on their faces. The grounds are big enough to absorb the large number of guests and there were lots of sunbeds to sit by the wonderful pool.

Staff were very friendly. Check-in / out was extremely slow.Breakfast spread was remarkable.Food for most every culutre, including the normal western breakfast choices. Food prices are a little high but that was true everywhere. Overall--a great hotel and great stay!

Facilities were good. Staff were friendly and helpful.
2 problems which stood out as not five star:
1.Reception was a nightmare - there were not enough staff, and the staff took ages to sort out what I thought were simple requests. Staff seem to be slowed by dealing with some stupid computer system which needed about 30 clicks of a mouse and lots of typing to accomplish the simplist task.
2. Some of F+B outlets had an occasional poor dishes. Most dishes were excellent, but a few were really poor - vietnamese spring rolls, and the crab feast. It was a bit hit and miss.

We spent a few days in Sandakan visiting animal sanctuaries and the rain forest areas and then came to Kota Kinabalu for some r & r before heading home. The Tangjang Aru was the perfect place to end our most enjoyable stay in Sabah. The rooms were very good, the service from all the staff was excellent, they were friendly, helpful and there was a smile and greeting from them all as we moved around the resort. The setting of the resort is superb and we spent the evenings at the Sunset Bar enjoying the vivid sunsets, each one different but every one amazing. We visited the islands and the two young ones also went jet ski-ing. We also enjoyed the poolside facilities of the hotel or just relaxed in the peace and quiet of the lovely grounds on one of the many sunbeds available. Certainly a holiday the four of us will long remember.

A well located hotel, very close to airport and town centre. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Lovely grounds and pools, with plenty of sunbeds to choose from. Good choice of restaurants - massive choice at breakfast buffet. Well worth a trip to sister hotel Rasa Ria which has a fabulous beach and orangutan sanctuary- courtesy bus runs regularly. Good size rooms with big bathroom and nice furniture on balconies. New spa centre was being built which will be a great asset once complete. Well worth a visit.

The staff are to be congratulated.. I do not remember seeing one member of staff who was not extremely helpful and with a huge smile, not a false smile either but the smile of someone genuinely happy to be doing their job. Great!
One thing I did not enjoy was the place we had breakfast..although it was a great buffet spread, I had the impression that it was catering for too many people and at one point there were no plates or cutlery..not cheap either at 60 ringit a go.
I would definitely go back though..great rooms, wonderful staff and beautiful views.

Although it is a beach resort hotel, this year from last year, the change we have noticed it that the hotel concerntrated more for business clientele. Therefore the atmosphere was slightly cold in respect as there were groups of business people and not holidaymakers

NIce beds, good bathrooms and 'extras' , lovely balconies with great views, spacious rooms. They have all you would need on a holiday - nice pools, good selection of eating places, good spa facilities and gym - we had free internet in the room. Housekeeping staff were super-friendly and helpful - they remembered our names and even sent us a card before we left! Reception staff were friendly and efficient - helped us out when we wanted to extend our stay. This was my eighth stay at Tanjung Aru - previously I have only stayed for a day or so, but this time it was for six nights. As always, the place is great, the staff are extremely polite, helpful, friendly and well-trained, the facilities are super - although lunchtime service at Coco Joe's (the open-air seaside restaurant) can be rather slow - my son and I were doing a PADI dive course with Absolute Scuba (based at the Marina by the hotel) and chose to stay in Tanjung Aru for sheer convenience - the scuba staff and our instructor were first rate and I will definitely go back there to do more diving- the only thing that spoilt the stay was the noise from the renovation work being carried out in the Kinabalu wing - from 10am-6pm every day - when we were out diving this was not a problem, but when we wanted to rest and relax between dives, the noise made it difficult - I would have appreciated advanced notice of this before booking! Still, I will always choose to stay at Tanjung Aru when I visit KK as I have never been disappoi

Lovely place - do make sure you get down to the sunset bar for the sunset ceremony (preferably with a Pimms!) Also enjoyed weekend afternoon tea, helicopter ride, horse riding. If you dont mind being a longish way from town, try sister hotel Shangrila Risa something - the bay setting is truly amazing
