The Sabah Hotel (previously Renaissance Sandakan Hotel) nestled amidst one of the world's last unspoiled rainforests, offers excellent facilities for the discerning traveller. With lush foliage as a backdrop, the hotel exudes an alluring natural attraction as it blends in well with the rich flora and fauna of "The Land Below The Wind".

good enough reception but the receptionist was busy chatting with her colleague and spent good 1 minute standing infront of her while she went chatting and laughing and all. rooms are cosy though. we waited 10minutes for a glass of milk from room service.breakfast was good and pool was reasonable. and a little bit pricy.

I thought the rooms were great, nice and spacious. The Plantation restaurant could have been better. The restaurant has a lot of potential, but the food was always deep fried and not much of a variety. IT would have been nice if they could have had a pick up from the airport with being a 4 star hotel. The staff were friendly enough. I think this hotel is in a very lovely setting and a few improvements it could turn itself into a 5 star one.

The hotel had a lovely gym and the breakfast was excellent, the pool was set in lovely surroundings and was the best place that we stayed at in the Sabah region. The hotel was walking distance from the English tea house.

As Sandakan hotels go this is the nearest to luxury in the area. It is probably more a 4* than the advertised 5* but the fitness facilities and pool are in very good maintained condition. The rooms were clean upon arrival but as we only stayed the one night it was hard to judge the service. The hotel is out of the main town but taxis are available and cheap. We took a taxi to the urangutan park and the driver stayed throughout the visit (approx 2 hours) and charged a RM100. Be sure to visit the karaoke bar in the hotel where you given a private room for you and your friends to sing your hearts out while they bring drinks and snacks to you.

The only down side to this hotel is the location. It is a little way out of town and therefore eating options are limited to the hotel. The restaurant in the hotel does however offer a different type of meal every night. Ranging from Steamboat to traditional Malaysian BBQ. A quick taxi ride into town could take you to some other eating venues if you knew where to go. The facilities were good, we were a family of 4 and therefore needed two rooms.

Front desk staff and its manager were rude and impolite. Good hotel, poor client service. We won't recommend this hotel.
