When you arrive in a morning flight and you are not able to check in (default!) before 3 pm it is very annoying. When than at 3 pm the rooms are not yet available since housekeeping has not completed the job? This though turns out to be a standard issue. We stayed 3 nights and on none of the days the rooms were cleaned before 5 pm (!) This is caused by fact that the entire floor is being cleaned by one single person who also is multi-tasking since we noticed him 'serving' at breakfast which btw is poor and below par. No remote control for TV, no in room safe and we had the knob of the shower dropping on the floor several times. AC makes a terrible noise. The beach is public and no stretchers available. The 'tour-desk' is a cheat since a tour comprises of a drop at your destination and nothing more. When tickets' for the tour's destination are sold out you have bad luck. This happened to us. Wifi only in lobby area. Never again!

location , if you dont mind a bit of walking, which we like doing,is good. island plaza shopping centre nearby and not much further to gurney drive, with more shopping and plenty of good food. A cafe called Mr Pot on gurney drive does excellent fried bee hoon and good coffee. i think this hotel is value for money, nice secluded beach and we intend on returning same time next year.

I have stayed at the Tanjung Bungah 3 times over the past 2 years. Much nicer now that they have renovated the lobby & restaurant. Rooms have not changed, but still okay. Good value for money, but the rates are going way up on April 1, 2009, so I will hesitate to stay there again at the new rate. Nice beachfront, great pool, and good for kids, bus stop just up the street and good hawkers market nearby, too.

Breakfast was great. Front desk staff was okay but the tour desk staff were very helpful. Common areas were fantastic. Very clean and pleasing to the eye. The room was another story. It was well worn, especially the bathroom. The room was borderline below average. Thin walls. But we got what we paid for I think. Location was not really close to anything except the beach which was awesome. Bus and taxi service were very easy to comeby and both were just outside the front door. Overall if you are looking for a cheap sleep in a decent part of Penang and you aren't to picky about your room this should be great.

I liked the location, right on the beach. The hotel staff were very thorough, well trained and attentive. What I didn't like? The room was very bare, to the point that there was no chair even for me to sit and do some work at the dressingtable/desk. The bathroom was also bare of toiletries, only wall dispensers; at the shower, it was an all in one dispenser for body soap and shampoo, I mean it was the type of dispenser you'd find in a public toilet in a developing country. Also, this hotel attracts cheap tour package tourists that run up and down the hallway yelling at each other, this in the middle of the night. very unpleasant if you are on business.I would recommend this hotel for the location only (right on the beach) but nothing else.

The room is of a good size but the basic faciliities like toilet rolls & tissue paper are lacking. The key to the room is often not functioning properly. But overall is satisfactory.

The lobby and the entrance of the hotel is very impressive. Even the newly refurbished restaurants and bars are excellent. The rooms though is a little small and cramped but it's a nice place and location to have a few nights stay. Overall, a good experience.

The personnel and the leve lof care was excellent and impressive - very accomodating people. Breakfast buffet was OK but if you want omelet, etc., you have to order it from the kitchen - no extra charge. They are very accomodating.

We refused to check in this hotel as when we arrived at the hotel, we discovered that the whole entire lobby area and the beach area ( if you can call that a beach !!) under renovation, with workers drilling the floors and dust everywhere, a real scandal to sell a product in that condition, we would not even have stayed the hotel for free, to be honest with you, we can not understand you will sell something like that, we felt being cheated and in the end we had to pay lot of extra to get another hotel. Never again!

The hotel is for people, who don't like too much noise. The best thing is the beach at the steps of the hotel and very few people. The price is very VERY good (in my case 40 USD per night (2 persons) with breakfast).

Very nice location on the beach side...The spread of the food as well as the quality is quite good...The fitness centre was closed even during its business hours which was a bit disappointing..On the whole, Iwould rate this hotel very good and certainly it is worth the money I spent...

This hotel was in the middle of nowhere. It was dirty and the food was absolutely horrible. I tried having dinner there and my fish was brought ridiculously under cooked, my room was dirty. There were far nicer hotels in the heart of the city for the same or less money.

Family hotel, ala Holiday in or such. Staff was professional and courteous in that hotel staff sort of way. Very wide selection of foods, though predominantly Malay. Impossible to get a good cup of coffee. "3-in-1" instant baggies in the room included sugar and creamer whether you wanted it or not. Instant coffee in the restaurant was made (not brewed) one cup at a time. A significant downside is that, although right on a beach, the hotel is far from town. Some swam in the waters near the hotel in spite of a jellyfish problem and warning signs. Visibility in the water was about six inches, at most. Taxis are available, but often must be called. The buses are non-A/C city units, and fairly dated.

Smoke sometimes gets into the air conditioning system, since non-smoking rooms are not determined by floor division. View is good, and although some of the fittings seem worse for wear, the view in the seaview rooms are great, especially given the highly reasonable rates. Don't expect high cuisine from the kitchen, but the food is of reasonable quality. Quality of the service staff varies from individual to dividual but generally the staff are courteous and go out of their way to accomodate to your needs.

The room is clean but the lighting in the toilet is a bit dim which make it looks like a bit dirty! the beach is not really fantastic but clean, and is easily accessable by just a staircase if you wana have some fun in the sea water! its located in between town and Batu Ferringhi Beach! public transport is conveniently available from the door step and takes about 20min to reach the town area at KOMTAR, and it also passes thru Jalan Burma where you can find lots of good food!!! and 15min to Batu Ferringhi Beach where you can shop at the night markets and enjoy some good foods at the hawker center there!there is a hawker center just about 5-10min walk, which is just next to the Chinese Swimming Club, and another hawker center which they said previously was at Gurney Drive, now move over to Jln Tokong, opp Marina Bay Condo, which is about 10min by bus!! overall, its really a value for money accommodation!! i'll book wz this hotel again if i do visit Penang in future!!

From the moment of our arrival the hotel had a negative feel. Upon entering the room we discover a dead lizard on the floor. We arrived after 12:00 PM so the room should have been cleaned. The floors were soiled and the room itself looked like it had seen better days - obviously a result of the hotels unwillingness to spend money on upkeep or renovations. In addition, there was no complimentary water in the refrigerator, nor any drinks for that matter. The hotel had an unprofessional air about it – arriving for breakfast at 7:00 (breakfast is from 7-9AM) we find the entire hotel staff sitting and eating breakfast, lights are dimmed, and not an effort from any of the staff to serve us. My wife and I were literally left standing in the foyer waiting for them to finish their breakfasts. In summary, the service was poor, the food was mediocre at best, and the rooms belong in the 70's - the hotel claims to have a 3 star rating – I wouldn’t give it half a star. It failed on every account.

Very good value for money. Excellent location in terms of its proximity to the beach. The sea-view room was very comfortable, especially when entertaining guests. Breakfast was of a good variety. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would advise guests to rent a car if they wish to save on taxi costs.
