Royal Penang Hotel (Formerly Dorsett Penang Hotel) calls itself a business or corporate hotel catering to the needs of corporate clients. It functions as a home away from home for the business traveler though is equally pleasant for general holiday makers.

Rated #12 for all Penang hotels
The Dorsett Penang is an excellent experience, with simply first class staff, great food and close to amenities. We took an Executive Suite on the top floor, which provided two toilets, two main rooms (each with a TV) and even with all this space, the cost was most reasonable thanks to HotelTravel.com. The nearby newly opened New World Park and fascinatingly restored shop-houses in Nagore Place offer alternate, inexpensive Penang dining at it's best. A walkway connects the hotel to adjacent shops and large supermarket and it's just a short stroll to major shopping in Penang Road. We have staye...

Hotel location is excellent. I would rate this hotel as top if only the housekeepiing does the duties. Bathroom tub was not cleaned, towel insufficient. We booked 2 connecting rooms with 4 adults. Only towel for 2 was available. Drinking water, toothbrush, bedroom sleepers not given till we asked for it. However, the front desk and concierge staff togetrher with the other hotel staff were excellent, friendly and professinal. They directed us to one of the fantatic food location. The front desk staff also allowed us into the rooms although check in was only at 2.0o pm we were allowed in at 12.30 pm We woiuld certainly want to stay in this hotel again but hope my next trip in the hotel room facility to be improved as I do travel to Penang averaly twice a year.

I liked the location most of all. It was very near to the centre of Georgetown. The tour desk provided good information about local services but as they were a private company they charged a lot for transport to the airport and were unable to give me information about tours that I could join because they wanted me to take a private tour in a taxi. IGenerally, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel; it was clean, comfortable and quiet.

The hotel has very luxurious rooms and the appearance. However, the efficiency of the hotel staff is not very sound.

A walkway connects the hotel to adjacent shops and large supermarket and it's just a short stroll to major shopping in Penang Road. We have stayed at this hotel many times and to be remembered and have the red carpet treatment on each visit is very special indeed. You can't get better than this for a city hotel in Penang for anywhere near the price. Room clean, spacious, quiet, aircon worked well, great view.
free health club (machines, sauna). Pool is a bit small and not suited to laps, but I've seen worse. Everyone of the staff has a genuine smaile like they enjoy serving you - fast, efficient and they understand Aussies!
The buffet breakfast is the best I can recall anywhere. Evening meals are varied and excellent. Parts of the property are being slowly upgraded, but we had the best and I have no complaints. Housekeeping staff were friendly with nothing too much trouble. Thanks to HotelTravel.com, the cost of our Executive Suite was most reasonable, being not much dearer than the average for a city hotel in Penang and very much cheaper than the (marginely) best.
Adjacent to supermarket, nearby alternative dining of all types so typical of Penang's inexpensive foods. Short walk to Penang Road shopping, taxis readily available. Airport pick-up by hotel was waiting for us and car was new and spacious. Taxis are always readily available and cheap.
