Some of the guest room furniture/furnishings are tattered should be replaced and the platform bed was noisey (creaky). The staff is the best I've encountered; it right up there with the Ritz Carlton and the Paridisus resorts, but even more friendly, helpful and courteous. The setting is unique in that you're in the middle of a rain forrest and right on a lovely beach in Datai Bay. The room furniture/furnishing problems are easly solved by staying at the sister hotel the Datai, a couple hundred meter down the beach, but it in my opinion the added cost isn't worth it. Excellent location, only 2 hotels on the beach, very friendly service. I was in the standard room, found the furniture fine, despite other people's comments. TV package could have been better, but they rent you DVDs for free. You can share most facilities with Datai - e.g. restaurants, and if you care, probably pools as well, and you can bill to Andaman room, which is convenient. Food is slightly pricey - around 50-60 pounds for an no-frills dinner for two.

The monkeys that roam the grounds are not a problem except for the guest who think it's cute to feed them and then get mad when the monkeys continue to come back to them again and again looking for food. One word of caution, if you're looking for a hot night spot with a lot of action, this is not the place for you. It's quiet, restful, with a lot to do, but it's not Las Vegas nor Cancun. I would go back

One of the best resorts in Asia. It was a bit costly but very much enjoyed. Would be willing to come back someday. Fitness classes were great as well. ...
