A complete makeover has transformed this older Federal hotel bringing her up to international standards. Originally built in 1957 hints of the original 'colonial' hotel still remain today.

Rated #50 for all Kuala Lumpur hotels
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Federal. Staff were efficient and friendly. The room was good. The location couldn't be better. The only thing that spoiled it for us was the lack of healthy food at breakfast. The juice was poor; the fruit selection was bad; there was no muesli; no mint or green tea; and no healthy low fat yogurt. In fairness when we raised the matter they really tried hard and produced mango and muesli for us so hopefully they've got the message and there will be an improvement....

I have stayed here a couple of times because of location. I would love to see a member of staff - especially reception - smile at customers. They are the most dismal lot when it comes to customer greetings.

Our room was infested with small cockroaches that we saw walking around, especially at night. We booked a triple and had to request for the 3rd towel on a number of occasions. There were no bath mat and small face/hand towels unless we each time have to request. We asked to change room on the following day and reception was not too good. It seems that there is a communication problem as you need to keep on repeating the same thing many times. On our departure as it was an early flight, we checked out at 5 am and had requested for packed breakfast on the eve. The girl at the reception reassured me twice that the breakfast packs will be ready at 4.30 am and that it could not be sent to the room, but that we had to come down to reception to collect. On that day, at 5 am no instruction was given by that girl to the kitchen to prepare and we had to wait 20 mins for the packs to be ready. In the meantime, our taxi driver got angry as he had to wait for 20 mins... Will never recommend this hotel to anyone. It is not even worth a 3 star.....

Excellent location for shopping and close to monorail, which is handy to get Chinatown or KLCC as taxi's will cheat you. There wasn't a good signal on the TV. No icy tray in the fridge and looked unhygienic and a pretty grim view out the window. The toilet did not flush properly. I wouldn't stay here again. There are cheaper hotels of the same standard on the same road.

Great location, comfortable rooms and a good price. Although a couple of minor remarks (lights that didn't work, key card went missing inside the front desk etc.) i will stay here next time I'm in KL.

This is not what I would categorize as a 4 star hotel! At best it 3 star, unless of course we have star inflation in KL or Malaysia in general. Try some of the 4 star hotels in Thailand and you would understand.
I was reading the reviews for one of the hotels next to Federal and the complaints/praise were about the same.
Here is what I incountered at Federal: The staff were helpful and the location is central which gave the hotel good marks. The restaurant was adequate, but beyond the fresh fruits at breakfast I would say average. Missing knobes on control panels, electrical devices that no longer function. Hallway stuffed with ugly role beds. Insects that crawl out in the drawers. Sinks that are delaminating from the counter.
Does it make it a good value?
The answer is No. I did not know, but now I know to look elswhere.

The room had not been cleaned properly - not when you find a used condom in your room and hairs in a bed that is meant to be clean. The seats outside next to the pool stained your clothes if they were wet. No notices about this at all. Most of the plug sockets in the rooms were hanging off, looking very unsafe. Phone cable did not work - had to be adjusted before you could ring out. No-one could ring into our room. The other room we booked had a phone call at 7am from a tour operator in a different language.

I appreciated being upgraded to a larger room. While an older hotel, my room was excellent. The location is also great, right on Jin Bukit Bintang.

Overall my stay is a pleasant one...only that it has no carpark. You need to park your car in another place..which make it not a safe place to park.(should b right under ur nose) You need to bring down all your luggagge near the entrance&back entrance wheres the plce is so small...while other vehicle is waiting for you...makes you in a hurry state. The kids pool is need to be improved. The rest is fine.

We've chosen Federal Hotel because of his excellent location - hotel is pretty close to the old city centre (especially to Chinatown) and itself is located on one of the most living, although pretty turistic, streets. Watch out not be overpriced by local taxi drivers standing in front of the hotel. The hotel's staff was nice and rooms were clean (but don't expect new furtniture). Standard rooms only have queen's beds. For double bed, you have to book a deluxe room. The hotel serves excellent breakfasts.
