We really enjoyed our 2 days in the Equatorial, great breakfast, professional staff and a top class room. The only exception was the advice given to us by the man near reception about a restuarant... we spent a lot on the buffet and the food was "old", the place was a tourist "rip-off" !! ...

Walking distance to train stations (LRT and monorail), KLCC and Bukit Bintang which is very convenient. Always a plus when breakfast is included in the room rate. The pool is alright not it's main attraction. Room is a bit small with 3 beds but otherwise comfortable. All in all we had an excellent stay.

Previously stayed 11 October 2007 (see review of that date). Should mention that the hotel shampoo is below average and recommend you bring your own. Buffet breakfast and dinner is still great value, and the location of the hotel is great. Room service menu is a bit limiting if you want low fat western food. Staff delivering food to the room were very professional.

The reason I rated "hotel facilities" as poor is because the hotel charges for acces to a gym and for internet. The 25 MYR to use the gym for a day is unnecessary. Few people use a gym anyway, so they cannot make much money that way. The charge of 50 MYR per day for internet in the room I find outrageous. I rather pay slightly higher room prices since I find this more honest. Internet used to be offered free, until they probably realized how much we want this service. I stayed the three previous days at the Impiana KLCC, and they don't charge for either of these services. Next time I will give preference to the Impiana, although I prefer the location of the Equatorial (close to the monorail). Otherwise, I find this hotel is decent value. I would welcome a movement to boycott those hotels who impose outrageous charges.

The hotel has a fabulous location, just a couple of minutes away from the monorail station and 10 minutes walk to the Golden Triangle and the Twin Towers. Its quite reasonably priced as well. The problem with it is some of the staff. I was told on the first day that one needed to wear shoes and long pants at breakfast, but in the next few days I saw a number of people wearing flip flops. Nobody seemed to be saying anything to them. The lobby manages was a rude, sad soul and once, when there was nowhere to sit around in the lobby, I parked myself on the steps to wait for my colleague only to be very rudely told to move. I saw a different treatment of people from different nationalities. But the rest of the hotel was fine...

Food was excellent (saddly no bacon). Food is cheap but drinks are a bit steep (bought elsewhere). Prompt room service with food at very reasonable prices. Location is perfect for travel to the twin towers. Not many people using the pool, which made use pleasurable. Only used taxis for transport, very cheap compared to Australia (under AUD25 from airport, 70km away). A visit to the parliamentary circle a must for any visitor (around 30 minutes away by taxi). Located minutes away from the twin towers. Beautiful view at night whan the light were on. Clean and tidy rooms. TV size 51cm (21"). Bring your own shampoo as the one hotels supply is rather average. Only used salt water pool which was clean.

This hotel like many others should stop exploiting their customers with in-room internet charges. This service should be either free or at a reasonable cost, not 40 ringgits/day.

While the room and location of the hotel were more than acceptable, the hotel itself takes a mercenary approach to its guests that in the end made my four day stay most unpleasant. Although the hotel website lists internet access as a "standard feature," the website makes no mention of the truly outrageous fee of 50 RM (a little over $15) per 24 hour period of broadband usage the hotel charges its guests. I have traveled extensively in Japan and Thailand (as well as Europe and the US) and have never been charged for internet usage, so this hotel is unique in my experience. A local telephone call lasting no more than 2 or 3 minutes cost 20 RM. When I spoke to the General Manager of the hotel concerning the internet fee, the GM dropped "Mr." and simply referred to me by my surname. When it comes to gauging "guests" for every last penny, the hotel takes a most serious approach. In short I will never stay at the Equatorial again and would recommend looking elsewhere for accommodation in Kuala Lumpur - which is itself an extremely pleasant city.

Good location: next to monorail station, walk 5min to shopping district and Petronas Towers (if you know the shortcut). 3 stops away on the monorail at Chow Kit is a quaint traditional locals' market (not the touristy type). They made my room twice a day when I left the "Make my room" sign on.

The location of the hotel is great as it is within walking distance (10-15min) to Petronas Towers and there is a nice view of the towers from the 8 feet deep swimming pool on the 4th floor. I have mixed feelings about the friendliness of the staff, because we were met with courtesy and professionalism both at the midnight check-in and departure. However, when we took pictures in the lobby of the beautiful flower arrangements, we were told that we were not allowed to take pictures-the hotel staff even had this written as an SMS on his mobile phone. I strongly recommend the management to change this policy, as people on vacation would like to have photo memories of the places they stay at. When we enjoyed the great breakfast buffet that has a wide variety to choose from, we used the trays displayed and were then -quite rudely- told by staff that we should put the trays back as they were only meant for people eating sushi.

I liked the location of the hotel and their service. We reached late in the night. Still the change of room to suit our needs was done without any delay. The hotel needs a travel desk. The reception is friendly, efficient and helpful.

The staff is very friendly and accomodating. They attend to your needs immediately. The location is also very strategic. It is near the monorail station where you can reach the KL Sentral Station, and from where you can reach any place in the City. The hotel is also a few minutes walk from the Petronas Towers. Highly recommended.

Loved the beds as they were so comfortable after 7 weeks in Budget hostels in India. Also the breakfast was amazing with your own "Omelette Man". Definately recomend to others and would come to stay again.

Good location - front of hotel faces Monorail, rear the Petronas Towers. One stop or a short walk to Bukit Bintang area, and also to the Petronas Towers themselves. Not keen on door to adjoining room and the consequent noise from other guests. Otherwise a very comfortable place to stay.

The hotel has a very convinient location. Close to the train station, commercial and enternteiment center. We were a little disappointed by the hotel standard. From a five star hotel we accept much more. By European standards we would give the hotel rooms- 3 stars. Especially after staing in Raddisson SAS in Bangkok the Equatorial Hotel seemed to be of much lower standard. The rooms are quite small and the furniture is a little bit used. But it was clean and the food was ok. Anyway, we didn't spend much time in the hotel so we didn't mind. And what is the mos imprtant - we had fun.

I like the location, and the friendliness of the staff. The room is a bit old, but it's ok. The towel was rather smelly, and I think the hotel should consider replacing them with new ones. The food (breakfast) is very ordinary. I used to stay in Ritz Carlton, Marriot, Westin, regent and Mutiara, but I would consider switching to Equatorial.
