Airports

Senai International Airport (JHB), formally Sultan Ismail International Airport, is the chief gateway to both the city of Johor Bahru and the state of Johor. The airport is a compact but modern facility offering a full range of contemporary services and amenities including currency exchange desks and ATMs, lockers, prayer rooms, a nursery room, lounges, shops and restaurants. Wireless broadband is also available within the airport terminal.

The majority of flights arriving at the airport are domestic and are provided by Malaysia Airlines. Domestic destinations served include Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. AirAsia operates flights from Macau and Palembang, while its Indonesian offshoot provides connections with Jakarta.

There are coach services, shuttle buses, public buses and airport taxis available to transport visitors between the airport and downtown Johor Bahru. Rental cars are also available for those visitors preferring to make their own way to their onward destination.

Public Transport

There are a number of ways to reach Johor using ground-based public transportation, with the causeway from Singapore to Malaysia providing one of the most popular routes into the state. There are regular bus services from Singapore to Johor Bahru. Visitors are obliged to alight at the border for immigration purposes; passengers can re-connect with their bus beyond the immigration post. Visitors travelling from Singapore to Johor Bahru by train must also disembark at the border for immigration purposes.

From other parts of Malaysia, buses provide connections with Johor with a number of long distance services in operation. All services terminate at the Larkin Bus Terminal, which is situated about four kilometres north of the Malaysia-Singapore causeway. Regular services operated by a number of different companies are available from Kuala Lumpur.

Taxis from Malaysian destinations offer a convenient and relatively economic means of reaching Johor. Specially licensed cabs can be taken from Singapore across the causeway, which can be booked in advance by telephone: +65 6296 7054.
