Star Ratings :   Location : Central   Rooms :  24
Pousada De Sao Tiago was one of the fortresses built in the 17th century by the Portuguese to defend Macau against hostile European nations and local pirates. One hundred years later a chapel was built within its walls and dedicated to Saint James, the patron saint of the Portuguese garrison. Today, much of the fortress and the Chapel have been preserved as part of the Pousada de Sao Tiago. Come, step back in time and be pampered by age old traditional Chinese hospitality while lapping up the comforts of the hotel.

Having stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions, this latest stay did not disappoint. Although the normal room rate is very expensive, take advantage of the mid-week internet rate and it becomes much more reasonable (over 60% cheaper). The hotel is incredibly atmospheric and beautifully appointed, with a fantastic setting in this quiet area of Macau. If you're lucky with the weather, nothing beats having a dip in the lovely swimming pool followed by some food /drinks on the outside terrace. Staff are friendly and very accommodating, while the food from Os Gatos restaurant, while not the m...

My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel. Check-in was speedy and very pleasant. The room itself was a comfortable size and decor. The only downside we found was that the hot water in bathroom took a long time to get (30mins!), and the shower did not have a strong jet of water. Breakfast was good and the service was very pleasant in a lovely environment.

From the pictures & description, we were expecting something of a quiet oasis. In fact, it's overlooking a major road, and if you want to walk anywhere it's a long way. There's a damp, musty smell and the breakfast was inedible. I don't know how this gets a 'five star' rating. And the prices advertised on their website? We paid a fraction of this - I can't imagine anyone actually pays those prices.

Internet access fee is very expensive, out of proportion. Ambience is excellent, the restaurant menu service and value is lacking.

The hotel is very nicely designed in its old surroundings. Nevertheless, due to the ancient walls of the fort, it is very humid. When we where there, they did some re-construction, which annoyed us in so far as we had a permanent smell of colour. We were, however, given a free breakfast for the inconvenience this caused to us. The staff was very friendly as far as this was concerned and we didn't have additional noise.

Staff are friendly and very accommodating, while the food from Os Gatos restaurant, while not the most extensive menu in Macau, is tasty enough. Hotel is in a lovely location, with the A-Ma Temple a short stroll away, while going the other way, you can have a pleasant walk along the old tree-lined promenade towards the city centre, passing some great restaurants & cafes on the way. Overall, this hotel is a hidden gem, and is head and shoulders above the others in Macau.
