Airports
Macau International Airport (MFM) is located on Taipa Island, only three miles from the centre of the city. Low airport fees make it possible for a number of low-cost carriers to provide service here. AirAsia operates several flights daily from Bangkok, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur, while Cebu Pacific Air operates daily service from Manila and Tiger Airways from Singapore. Other airlines serving Macau include Air Macau and Shanghai Air.
Macau also serves as a connection point for flights from mainland China en route to Taiwan. The Chinese government does not permit direct service from its mainland airports to Taiwan, so scheduled services must stop in Macau or Hong Kong first, from where passengers can take a connecting flight to Taiwan. For transfer from the airport, bus route AP1 provides service to several stops on Taipa Island and to Macau Tower, Hotel Lisboa, Macau’s art museum, The Sands and the Ferry Terminal.
Public Transport
Peninsular Macau covers an area that’s no more than a few square miles and can mostly be seen on foot. Streets signs are often non-existent and visitors commonly get lost, but this is part of the charm of Macau. There is bus and taxi service available. Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos de Macau and Transportes Urbanos Macau operate bus services. Taxi service is reasonably priced and distances between attractions are very short.
