Luxembourg Introduction

Luxembourg is a superb destination any time of the year due to its pleasing climate and plentiful points of interest. Ranking as one of the world's safest city and holding the world record for residents having the highest income per capital, visitors are certain to have a marvellous time. Accommodation range from luxurious 5-star hotels like the La Royal Hotel and the Sofitel Luxembourg Europe to quaint boutique hotels.

It has a wealth of verdant terrain crisscrossed by rivers and strewn with fairy tale hamlets and striking castles. Numerous historical sites are within easy reach of one another, many of which can be pleasantly accessed by bicycle on car-free paths.

The picturesque scenery of the Ardennes is one of the country’s best natural attractions. Its lush forests and rolling green hills cover one-third of the nation’s landscape. The beauty and tranquility of this region draws many nature and outdoor enthusiasts. The Moselle Valley, famous for its wines, offers a wonderful wine tasting among centuries old wineries tucked in scenic valleys. The town of Vianden, near Germany, is well known for its magnificent castle, built between the 11th and 14th centuries.

The capital, Luxembourg-Ville, commands a stunning seat overlooking the Alzette and Petrusse valleys. It consists of two districts - the enchanting old centre, complete with fortress towers, turrets and meandering, cobblestone streets; and the modern downtown area. UNESCO declared the entire old part of Luxembourg-Ville a World Heritage Site. In contrast, the myriad of new office complexes in the modern district on the Plâteau du Kirchberg testify to Luxembourg’s reputation as a major international banking centre. Although small, Luxembourg has a lot to offer in the heart of Europe.

Tucked away between Belgium, France and Germany, Luxembourg is the world’s only remaining Grand Duchy and a tiny one at that, measuring a little over just 50 miles long and 32 miles wide. Despite its small size it is one of the world’s most cosmopolitan countries - with the highest percentage of foreigners in the EU - and has a very diverse landscape.

Luxembourg has just the one international airport, Findel International Airport, and there are no domestic flights. One could drive the length of the country within the hour so there is no real need for domestic flying anyway.
