Those arriving in Kuwait by air will land at Kuwait International Airport, the country's only airport. The country's national carrier, Kuwait Airways, is based here and operates flights to Western Europe and across the Atlantic to New York City. However, many prefer to fly with United Airlines, Thai Airways or the regional discount carrier, Jazeera Airways.

The airport is located 16 kilometres south of the capital city centre. Recent expansion projects have left the airport with a multi-storey car park; several shopping outlets including Jansport and a Virgin Megastore; and an expansive food court. A second terminal is slated for completion in 2010. Many local hotels arrange transportation from the airport, and taxis are on hand to take passengers to any area destination.

The Kuwait National Public Transport Company boasts a reliable transportation network throughout the country, offering the most economical means of getting around Kuwait. KGL and City Bus are privately owned entities that offer nicer, though still reasonably priced, buses.

There is a ferry network that connects Kuwait to other nations on the Gulf. Ash Shuwayk and Kuwait City boast the two busiest ports, with ferries frequently travelling to Iran and Bahrain. Legitimate, local taxis are identified by their red license plates and can be hired point-to-point or by the day. Car hire is also a viable means of getting around, and visitors will need to present an international driver's license to the car hire firm.
