Located 30 minutes from Tokyo, Yokohama is Japan's second largest city as well as one of its most prominent cities. This bustling metropolis is the home of some of the best attractions in Asia including the tallest building in Japan: Yokohama Landmark Tower and the world famous Yokohama Bay Bridge. The city also has thriving arts and theatre scene, excellent restaurants and a plethora of hotels accommodation.
Located to the south of Tokyo, Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city and is popular with foreigner visitors for its shopping, nightlife and the variety of fun attractions. Yokohama first came to prominence under the Meiji restoration and has had further life breathed into it in the form of the revitalised Minato Mirai district in the centre of town.
There are loads of child-friendly attractions in Yokohama, as well as a number of recreational parks for walkers and cyclists. There are two major amusement parks within the city centre alone – Sea Paradise and Yokohama Cosmo World – as well as a zoo and aquarium and a substantial dolls house. Yokohama International Stadium hosts big football matches.
Most visitors to Japan understandably focus on Tokyo and it does have many of Japan’s foremost urban attractions, yet Yokohama is totally revitalised and has some pretty amazing sights of its own. These include one of the world’s largest Chinatowns, the hi-tech Minato Mirai area and associated Landmark Tower, and the beautiful Sankeien Garden.
Narita International Airport near Tokyo is the gateway for those wishing to visit Yokohama. It is the country’s main airport and receives flights from just about every part of the globe. There are two terminals at the airport with excellent facilities, including ATMs, banks, currency exchange, duty-free shopping and good eating options.
