Narita International Airport near Tokyo is the gateway for those wishing to visit Yokohama. It is the country’s main airport and receives flights from just about every part of the globe. There are two terminals at the airport with excellent facilities, including ATMs, banks, currency exchange, duty-free shopping and good eating options.
Transport options to Yokohama from Narita International Airport are convenient and reliable. Perhaps the best, most cost-effective way in is the Airport Limousine Bus, which runs direct to Yokohama’s main hotels in about two hours. Buses depart hourly from both terminals. The JR Narita Express train also runs to Yokohama from the airport, terminating at central Yokohama Station, while car hire is also an option.

Buses and trains come into Yokohama from all over Japan, usually via Tokyo, while motorway access is also good. Driving within the city can be tough, however. If you just plan on staying in central Yokohama, it is easy enough to get about on foot or by bicycle, yet public transport options are good.

The Minato Mirai subway line is one of the most useful travel options for tourists in Yokohama, running from Yokohama Station to Chinatown via the harbour. The city also has extensive suburban lines, while the Akkaikutsu bus runs around Minato Mirai and Chinatown every 20 or 30 minutes. A variety of day and monthly passes are available for buses and the SUICA card for trains. You can also travel by boat (Sea Bus) between Yokohama station, Minato Mirai and Yamashita Park, while Velo taxis ply the harbour and rickshaws Chinatown.
