This turned out to be a really great hotel stay thanks to a room upgrade to a deluxe room overlooking the city with a balcony. Both rooms were very nice, but a view and outdoor area is extraordinary. The bedding, bath rooms, etc...could not be nicer. Staff were outrageously accomodating. Breakfast was extraordinary as these things go with both Japanese and International choices. The shuttle bus stopped running when we arrived and we didn't know that until another driver told us. 1600 yen trip....which we made a couple of times by cab for day trips out of Kyoto station returning too late. Beautiful facility.

The location of this hotel is excellent, being close to Nanzenji and the Philosopher's Walk which leads to Ginkakuji, a world heritage site. The hotel shuttle service to & from Kyoto Train Station was a big plus. We had a room with an upgraded bathroom, but the overall standard of the room was just average for a Westin. Service was attentive.
