We stayed at the Des Bains for four nights in June and wished we had booked for longer! Upgraded to a seaview room (which helped set the scene for the rest of our stay) we immediately felt totally comfortable with the casual elegance and unpretentious atmosphere that prevailed. The staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. From the concierge desk, where they spoke excellent English and nothing was too much trouble, to the friendly waiters and the efficient chamber maids, we could not fault them. Breakfast on the veranda overlooking the lovely gardens was memorable - our best hot...

Although this hotel is "tired", the location is wonderful, and the charm of the hotel is very nice. Starwood needs to invest some capital into this property then it will be worth the price. Otherwise it is overpriced as everything in Venice appears to be at this time. We were upgraded because of membership with starwood otherwise the "standard" room was rather modest for the price. We were upgraded to a "Sea View room" which was large and lovely. The standard room was rather small and plain. Convenience to Venice was wonderful, and the Lido area is lovely. It is a charming hotel, and offers very nice facilities. When we stayed, October, many of the outdoor facilities were either closed or closing. Concierge staff extremely nice and helpful. We only experienced breakfast, and it was one of the best we experience in Italy. Lovely location and lovely gardens. We stayed at the end of the season, which did have an effect. Convenience to Venice was wonderful, and the Lido area is lovely.

Only a minor criticism. The central air conditioning system was switched off in October. Opening the windows was fine except that mosquitos abound.

The rooms are huge but the furniture is a bit outdated. Otherwise, it is a wonderful hotel. I wish I could have stayed there 50 years ago.

Breakfast on the veranda overlooking the lovely gardens was memorable - our best hotel breakfast experience for a long time. The choice and standard of food and beverages was really good - a hot english breakfast which was constantly replenished, abundant fresh fruits, cold meats/smoked salmon, cereals and pastries, fresh juices and bucks fizz. The waitress delivered an expresso by mistake one morning (oh yes - they did make one mistake.....!) but it was so delicious that I continued to have them thereafter! The swimming pool was excellent - just the right temperature; plenty big enough to do laps and deep enough to dive. A swimming coach gave a few small children lessons for a while in the mornings. The separate children's pool and playing area were partly screened off by hedging and vegetation. We tried the barbeque and buffet one lunchtime and were very impressed - the crayfish were fantastic. The complimentary shuttle service to the Excelsior and Venice worked like clockwork right up until midnight and, if you wanted to visit the other islands, the very reasonable and regular ferry services were only ten minutes walk away. We visited quaint Burano one day and had a very enjoyable lunch at Trattoria Romano. I could go on and on.... but suffice to say that we thought the Des Bains was excellent and will definitely return some time for a longer stay. The communal rooms were elegant and bright without being stuffy. We never had to wait more than a minute for a lift. There were enough staff on the concierge and reception desks to ensure excellent service. There was a fitness suite - but we didn't use it! The front veranda was a lovely place to sit. Good size of pool. Very clean. Very deep at one end. Good children's pool. Good changing/shower rooms. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. Brilliant location. Just across from a beautiful beach, a few minutes from shops and restaurants, and ten minutes walk from the main ferries.

This is an excellent hotel that has maintained its classical style yet with modern facilities. The hotel even has the use of the water bus to Venice which is an additional plus. The hotel is very clean, well maintained, excellent food, and a beautiful balcony to sit on. I hope to go back. Its a hotel that female travellers on their own would feel safe and not out of place in.

Fantastic Hotel, in great position, only critisim is paying 12 euro for a mini vodka in mini bar and drinks in the bar are expensive. The rate through this web site is unbeatable and makes this hotel unmissable, you also get a private boat to take you in to Venice. The Lido is the best place to stay you benifit from having the beach and it is only a quick boat trip in to Venice.

The first room we were given had an infestation of ants, but after complaining twice! we were given another room. The service at breakfast was a bit slow and erratic for a hotel of this supposed calibre.
