Boasting a scenic location at the foot of the Alps, Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. There are a number of attractions here for every visitor, including museums, churches, stunning architecture, chic boutiques, local markets, an abundance of restaurants and a lively nightlife.

One of the most famous attractions in Turin is the Shroud, which is kept in the city’s cathedral. The Shroud of Turin is sacred among Christians, who flock to the city to view it. Other highlights include the National Cinema Museum, the numerous art galleries, the towering Mole Antonelliana and the Savoy residences.

If you are a football fan and happen to travel to the city during the football season, a trip to the home ground of Juventus football club is a must. You will be able to get tickets to most home games and admire the skills of the Italian footballers. Winter sports are popular in Turin, with the 2006 Winter Olympics having been held here. Other popular activities for outdoor lovers include hiking and mountain biking.

Accommodation options are plentiful, allowing visitors to choose from a variety of lodgings. Those looking for luxury can stay in the city’s upmarket hotels while those on a tighter budget will find a number of cheap guest houses and hostels. Families will find mid-range hotels which are child friendly and offer good amenities. It is advisable to book online in advance, especially if you are arriving during the busy summer months.

Turin International Airport offers a wide range of flights, including budget flights from many European destinations. The city can also be reached by train from England, France, Germany and Austria. The international trains are high-speed services with good onboard facilities. Long distance bus services are also a good option, especially for those on a budget, and are comfortable and reliable. They do, however, take a lot longer than trains or flights. Turin lies on many major road routes including the A4, A6, A21 and the A32, which makes travel by car feasible.
