Capodichino Airport in Naples is the closest international aviation facility serving Sorrento. It’s the chief gateway to the Campania region and can be found just eight kilometres outside of Naples city centre. The airport maintains connections with most major cities in the EU as well as with a small number of transatlantic destinations.

The airport’s two terminals offer a good selection of facilities and include ATMs and bureaux de change plus shops, cafés and restaurants. The Telelink Internet Centre is also on hand for anyone needing internet access or fax or photocopy facilities. Companies and business travellers can also make use of meeting and conference rooms.

Buses running throughout the day provide transfers between the airport and downtown Naples. ANM buses leave from outside the terminals every 15 minutes, while Alibus shuttles run every 30 minutes and arrive in the city considerably faster. Taxis are also available and can be hired for the trip to Sorrento; however, this is a costly option. Hiring a car from airport is a smart option for reaching Sorrento and dispenses with the need to make a stop in Naples.

Sorrento is well connected to other cities in the Campania region, making reaching it by road a stress-free affair provided you aren’t overly fazed by the erratic driving habits of the locals. There are also options for reaching the city by bus and rail from major Italian cities. The train from Naples takes about one hour, 10 minutes.

Once in the city, visitors can make use of the local bus service which covers not only the main Sorrento attractions, but also provides transportation along the length of the Amalfi coast. The Circumvesuviana train is also available and runs to popular destinations such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. Various destinations along the Amalfi coast can also be reached by boat.
