Sardinia’s idyllic countryside is well suited for a variety of outdoor and family activities. There are endless activities children can enjoy, whether watching the golden eagles at Gennargentu National Park, riding horses along the coast, or snorkelling above colourful reefs. Adventure sports are also catered for on Sardinia, ranging from scuba diving amid the remains of lost Roman ships or mountain biking through the interior.

Sardinia’s Romanesque churches are on the front lines of the island tourism scene, and most major cities have a Romanesque church reminiscent of those found in Pisa. Visitors arriving in Sardinia by air are likely to be routed through the international airport in Cagliari. The airport boasts an annual throughput of more than 2.6 million passengers and handles flights to and from mainland Italy as well as to several international destinations across Western Europe. There are also smaller regional airports in Alghero and Olbia, both of which operate a limited roster of international or charter flights.
