Pisa's climate is dictated by that of the Tuscany region and as such is predominantly mild and Mediterranean in nature, typically seeing hot summers and cool wet winters.
Not really an attraction or an activity so much as a place that the kids just have to visit at least once during their holiday; the Gelateria di Piazza in neighbouring San Gimignano, is hailed as one of Italy's finest ice- cream shops. A myriad of ice-cream flavours and the possibility of having up to a handful of scoops on a single cone, make this a destination that few children will not get exceptionally excited at the thought of and even more excited at the opportunity to stuff their faces to their heart's content.
Feast of the Epiphany: as a predominantly catholic country, Italians like to place some importance on the celebration of the Epiphany. Citizens of Pisa are no exception to the rule following national traditions and religious observances.
This magnificent ecclesiastical structure hailing from the 13th century was the work of architect Giovanni di Simone. Following its initial construction, there were further additions made to in 1343 in the form of two new chapels. Worthy of note among its present architectural features, are the belfry, nave and cloister. Some fine artwork can also be viewed inside the church with pieces by Santi di Tito, Taddeo Gaddi and Jacopo da Empoli. The Count of Donoratico, Ugolino della Gherardesca is buried in the church alongside the remains of his sons.
Pisa International Airport is a large, modern air travel facility located on the outskirts of the city and connected with the centre by rail, shuttle bus or taxi. Rail connections are maintained with Florence's Santa Maria Novella railway station, making Pisa Airport something of an important gateway to the Tuscany region. The airport terminal offers a good selection of traveller service and amenities and provides space for carriers maintaining connections with the majority of major EU destinations as well as to some North American cities.
