Pisa International Airport is a large, modern air travel facility located on the outskirts of the city and connected with the centre by rail, shuttle bus or taxi. Rail connections are maintained with Florence’s Santa Maria Novella railway station, making Pisa Airport something of an important gateway to the Tuscany region. The airport terminal offers a good selection of traveller service and amenities and provides space for carriers maintaining connections with the majority of major EU destinations as well as to some North American cities.

Public buses offer one of the cheapest and most convenient options for getting around the city with local services operated by CPT (Consorzio Pisano Trasporti). All the major destinations within the city limits are connected making it easy for tourists to plan self-guided sightseeing tours.

Tickets need to be purchased prior to your journey and can be done so from a variety of vendors such as newsagents and tobacconists. Tickets can be bought on the bus; however there are no savings to be made through this method. Tickets with one hour, two hour and 240 minute validity can be bought for those seeking unlimited travel within those time frames while multi-trip ticket booklets are also available for those planning extensive usage of the services.

Taxis are readily available in Pisa, for those visitors who prefer a little more convenience without worry of the expense. Cabs are metered and excesses are invariably applied at night, for extra passengers and for luggage loading.
