Alberobello, which means 'beautiful tree', is famous for its trulli building, an architectural style consisting of whitewashed cones made of stones that top buildings in the area. Built with no mortar, in a time that villagers were forbidden from building permanent homes, the trulli structures could, in theory, be dismantled quickly in the event of a royal visit.The area is known for olive cultivation and the streets are lined with over thousand trulli buildings, leading one to think they’ve entered a child’s storeybook. The cobblestone streets of Alberobello draw huge crowds to one of the most fantastical villages in Europe.
