Top Things to See

From vibrant but attractive ocean boardwalks to sites of historic significance, Tiberias has plenty of unique and interesting sights that provide visitors with plenty of worthy material to put in holiday photo albums. No vacation in the town is complete without a trip to the Hammat Tiberias National Park, while visitors wanting to pamper themselves and appreciate one of the town’s most famous historical features can book themselves in for a spa session at the Tiberias Hot Springs.

Galilee Experience
This popular show staged at a theatre located on the Tiberias waterfront explores 4,000 years of Galilee history, telling the story of the most significant men and women in the area’s history. Shows last 35 minutes and are held hourly during the day in a comfortable, air-conditioned auditorium.

Hammat Tiberias National Park
Located at the southern entrance to the town, Hammat Tiberias National Park is what is left of the ancient town of Hammat, once known across the country for its spa. The ruins of an ancient synagogue still stand and hint at the importance of the town’s early visitors and offer an insight into the prestige that it once enjoyed. Highlights of the synagogue include the fourth century mosaic depicting the cycle of the zodiac.

The Promenade
This is one of the liveliest areas of the town and where you can watch the locals socialising or spending their leisure time, should people watching be among your favourite pursuits. The attractive boardwalk is home to a large selection of shops and restaurants that overlook the Sea of Galilee.

Tabgha
Located a short drive from Tiberias, Tabgha is on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The town is famed as the site at which Christ allegedly performed the miracle of the loaves and fishes. A church now stands on the site where historians believe the miracle took place and includes a mosaic depicting the story. The church is on the same site that first saw a building erected in the fourth century.

Tiberias Hot Springs
Not so much a thing to see as a natural phenomenon to experience, the Tiberias Hot Springs is a site at which the water from some 17 separate springs is gathered and used for the therapeutic benefits of visitors. The water reaches temperatures of up to 39°C and the combination of the heat and the plethora of minerals the water contains allegedly offer relief from a wide selection of ailments. The site uses the water in a variety of different spa treatments.
