Airports

Shannon International Airport, 15 minutes by car from Limerick, is the nearest airport to the city and one of Ireland’s three most significant gateways. Here major airlines such as Aer Lingus, British Airways and Ryanair offer service to major European cities while there are also limited flights to the US and Canada.

The single terminal has a good range of amenities including ATMs, currency exchange, banks, restaurants, duty-free shops, wireless Internet throughout and an information desk.

From the airport, passengers can access Limerick by Bus Eireann shuttle bus. For greater convenience, taxis are available 24 hours from outside the Arrivals hall. Car hire is also well represented and the N19 leads to Limerick.

Public Transport

Many visitors to Limerick arrive in the city by car, with the well-signed N7, N20, N6, N66 and N19 converging on the city. From Dublin, Limerick is a three-hour drive.

Irish Rail services arrive at Limerick Colbert Station throughout the day, with direct services available from Dublin, Killarney and Cork. Bus Eireann provides a less popular means of accessing the city but can be a good option for those on a budget. Bus services arrive at Colbert Station, which doubles as Limerick’s railway station.

Once in Limerick, the city can easily be covered on foot or by bicycle. Bike paths make cycling easy and bike hire is available from outlets in the city centre. For longer journeys, Bus Eireann operates 12 local bus services. Weekly bus passes are available for those who plan on making use of the network regularly. Children, families and seniors are eligible for discounted fares.

Taxis are on hand for greater convenience and can be flagged down on the street, found at taxi ranks or called for in advance. Colbert Station has a ready supply of cabs.
