The airport in Bandung services West Java. More officially known as Husein Sastranegara International Airport, the facility is located 1.5 miles (2.5kms) from Bandung centre. Currently the only direct international flight available is the daily AirAsia service from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. If you’re planning to visit from another country, an alternative is to fly into Jakarta’s airport and take a short domestic flight, or travel by bus or shuttle, to Bandung.

Domestic service includes flights to the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, and other destinations on Java. Airlines providing service include Merpati Nusantara Airlines and Bouraq. Husein Sastranegara Domestic Airport is located just beyond the city limits. Taxi service, in addition to shuttle and bus service, is available from the airport to Bandung.

Transport around the areas of interest to tourists in West Java is straightforward and well-organised. Taxi service in Bandung is available, but it’s not as good as it is in Jakarta. Most drivers don’t use the meter so before getting into a taxi, the price for the trip should be negotiated. A guide or the front desk staff at your hotel should be able to give you an idea of a reasonable fare to your destination.

Buses are an inexpensive and reliable form of transport for getting around Bandung and other parts of West Java as well. The minibus service within Bandung city provides the most extensive service, and trips can be arranged through your hotel, as needed.

Car hire, with or without a driver, is another option. Short rentals of a few hours or a single day are possible. This is probably one of the best ways to see the city of Bandung and to visit the attractions that are spread throughout West Java.
