The Batavia was on the whole a good experience. The hotel is quite luxurious in appearance and very impressive from the outside and in the lobby, but on close inspection is a bit faded and tatty - clearly a once-excellent hotel that is now past its best, but still more than adequate. My room was pleasantly large and well air-conditioned, with a huge and very comfortable bed. However, some fittings were tatty and/or broken - the light in the cupboard was permanently on (it should have gone off when the cupboard door was closed) and when I asked for it to be repaired, the hotel's reaction was ...

Clean, friendly staff, good restaurants. Not near main tourist attractions, needed a Taxi everywhere. Slightly run down exterior. Expensive wireless internet compared to other places.

The hotel was undergoing a refurbishing and renovation process during our stay there. It made the hotel looked run-down and bleak! It was no wonder that the hotel was under-occupied during such a super peak period!
The location is also not ideal for tourists, as it's very far from the main city and major shopping centres. However, some attractions (like Ancol and Monas) are pretty near the hotel.
I must say that after the renovations, the hotel should look better and hence attract more to stay there. However, until such time, the hotel is not an ideal place to stay.
At the same time, I wish to put on record, the service provided by hotelTravel.com (Thailand) was excellent! reservation staff helped to find alternative hotels when the first hotel we booked was not up to our expectation. the patience and dedication to ensure customers' satisfaction was examplary. Thanks so much,!

Liked the price which was not too expensive, disliked the noise, the breakfast was awful, the furnishings were old, and my bathroom was leaking. The massage services were poor as well, the tea provided in the room was mouldy. The safe could be physically removed from the room. Towels were torn and stained.

However, some fittings were tatty and/or broken - the light in the cupboard was permanently on (it should have gone off when the cupboard door was closed) and when I asked for it to be repaired, the hotel's reaction was simply to disconnect it altogether (as opposed to actually fixing it). Even so, the price for the room was excellent considering the overall standard of the accommodation.
The staff were very friendly and polite in the usual Indonesian style, but several of them could not communicate in English, which was astonishing for a hotel of this standard.
The location of the hotel is perfect for visiting historical sites in Jakarta - namely, the old Dutch colony of Batavia and the port - but is desperately inconvenient for absolutely everything else. The business/shopping centre of the modern city is at least half an hour's ride by taxi, although admittedly the taxis are so cheap and reliable that it isn't really a problem.

The hotel looks rather new on the outside and lobby. However the rooms are abit old. Beds and linen are clean and tidy. I am quite pleased with the hotel staff. Value for money. Near Bus station and Chinatown.
