Like all of Indonesia, Jakarta's weather is typically tropical, which means hot and humid conditions year-round. Temperatures range from 25 to 28°C most of the time, which are cooled by gentle breezes that blow in from the sea. Since Jakarta lies on the equator, there is very little seasonal change; visitors can count on hot and sticky weather just about any time of the year.
Part space museum, part planetarium, this modern complex is a fun way to learn more about the universe through interesting exhibits, regularly scheduled educational programmes and other special events. The planetarium itself projects some amazing images from its telescopes two times a day, for those who want a close up look at the cosmos. Phone: +62 21 33 4720.
Chinese New Year: Jakarta’s thriving Chinese community puts on a real show during their traditional New Year. Firecrackers, the colour red and good vibes fill the streets of the city’s Chinatown.
The oldest temple in Jakarta is this Buddhist masterpiece dating back to 1650, when it was built for the followers of Taoism. The pungent smell of incense and burning candles provides an ambiance not often found in Jakarta.
Since Jakarta is located on the island of Java, nearly every visitor arrives by plane. However, if you are already in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia or a neighbouring country, it is possible to get to Jakarta by boat, train or bus. The capital has four train stations run by the state operator PT Kereta Api at Kota, Gambir, Pasar Senen and Tanah Abang. Most travellers arriving from another city on Java will disembark at Gambir Station, which can be found on Merdeka square, right in the heart of the city.
Although Bahasa Indonesia is the official language in Jakarta, the older generations speak Dutch as a second language. With some 583 regional dialects and languages spoken across Indonesia, it's likely you'll hear plenty of unusual conversations. Locals who work in the tourism industry can speak fairly good English as well as a handful of other major languages.

This month's lucky winner is Mr. Laith Addabbas who lives in Jordan.
