East Java is the second most populous province in Indonesia, after West Java. It is home to Meru Betiri National Park, a fine example of a coastal rainforest; Blambangan Peninsula, a beautiful blend of mangrove and savanna; Mount Bromo and Tengger caldera, in Semeru National Park; and Alas Purwo National Park, which means First Forest in Javanese, as myth has it, this is where the earth emerged from the ocean.
