Upgraded from superior to Deluxe upon request. Large, lovely room with outdoor lanai, and recently renovated room. Great staff, and wonderful breakfast buffet. Gardens and pool are excellent, and a full service spa is available. Area less busy than the heart of Kuta Beach, and can walk to the Oberoi along the beach. Restaurant Gado Gado is next door, and excellent....

I highly recommend this hotel, excellent service, very nice setting right on the beach and it is one of the best value-for-money hotels I've ever stayed at. The only negative was the outrageous prices for soft drinks or water at the pool restaurant, but that was solved by buying that stuff at the store down the road and keeping it in the minibar.

We stayed at a very standard room, but the size was big enough and the room was very clean. What I liked most about this hotel is friendliness of the staff. Good breakfast buffet, too. Very high cost performance. Definitely go back there:-)

I always enjoy staying at the Sofitel, because of it's location. However, the ongoing construction of adjacent apartments are becoming a little tedious! This has now been in progress for more than 1 year and from my experience in Indonesia, I feel it will be a further 12 months before the disruptions to the area cease! If you can handle the constant noise of grinding, banging, hammering etc, whilst laying by the swimming pool then the hotel is OK. If, however, you are looking for complete peace and quiet the Sofitl is not for you!. I suspect it will be back to normal by 2009.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is good. I was also very impressed when after arriving late from my flight, they immediately upgraded me to a better room. The room was nice, quiet and private. The thing I liked the least was the condition of the bathroom. The toilet made noise at night and disrupted sleep at times. The price of the drinks at the pool were a little too expensive. Other than that it was a nice place to stay.

To be avoided. A major construction (Anantara apartments) is taking place next to the swimming pool. The hotel is in a great need of renovation.

beautiful hotel right on the beach in great quiet location but close to the action if you want it....pool area lovely, very quiet. Food and drink at pool area very expensive and not good value. It is expected that food and drinks in hotel pool area would be more expensive than out and about but it was 3 or 4 times more expensive than local bars and restaraunts, which resulted in very few people using pool bar.

Paid for 'oceanview' but placed on the ground floor of hotel facing a garden wall! A large Peroscope was needed to view the ocean! Major construction of an apartment block has commenced in between the south wing of the hotel and the beach. This effectively made the balconies on that side of the hotel unusable because of the dust and noise. After complaining we were relocated to the far side of the hotel. This was much quieter and the room was of the same standard internally. (of course, still no 'oceanview') The hotel has beautiful gardens and is situated right on the beach with easy access to all the bars and restuarants in Seminyak. This is a plus. However, if you are going to book the Sofitel within the next 6 months, I would check on the construction progress as this has the potential to completely ruin any holiday! This construction is within 10 metres of the main swimming pool. When we were staying the noise level of the 'digger' was bearable but I am sure this is going to get much worse over the coming weeks. There is only a 2 metre wall between you and the construction site. Beware! You have been warned!

Great Location on the beach - close to the excellent restaurants in Seminyak. Room was a good size and tastefully furnished. A la carte breakfast was unusual, although the service could be a little slow at times. Free massage at Spa was very welcome. Very relaxing place, spacious well kept grounds. Very good location for the sunset - although I'd advise you to buy a beer from the vendor on the beach rather than the hotel as it was about one third the price! Taxis available right outside the gate - much cheaper than hotel cars - no problem getting them to put meter on. Small tour company 50m up the road if you want trips, again much cheaper than hotel option. Most other high end hotels along the same stretch of beach were significantly more expensive.

Nice hotel and certainly worth the money we paid. The superior rooms were large and clean with a nice view of the beautiful garden. The bathroom was disappointing: small, old and sealants were almost overgrown by fungi. Our friend staying in the same type of rooms complained about the same problems. If you have the money and need more privacy, I would advise the gorgeous villas! The hotel manager proposed an upgrade to a superior villa for "only" 270 USD.

Hotel lacks any type of effort. On arrival TV and Phone not working both replaced. Rooms serviced around 4.30pm. Towels dirty. Room service poor. At USD$110 per night this is very expensive. Sofitel should do better. Hotel bar now closed only open Bar around pool available. Rather poor.

Very restful place with its delightful garden, on the beach. The buffet breakfast had definitely some special touches which I liked. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. My only complaint would be about the defficient air conditioning system - but this might be limited to my room!
